Recommended Charger for Car Battery?

Featured Replies

Hi folks. Just wondering what make and models of charger you would recommend for keeping a car battery maintained? It would need to be compatible with an AGM Stop Start battery and ideally something that can deal with providing emergency jumpstarts or close to that as possible, as well as having some "intelligence" beyond a simple trickle charger.

I use a NOCO Genius 10 for my AGM in my Treg

I use one of these. It has a gentle 3.5A charge rate.

Bosch C1 (41.42 euros including shipping to the UK is about £35.18)

You can see Yuasa recommended charge rates for their AGM batteries by clicking on more info for each battery on their website.

But to save you looking, the recommended charge rate is 3A, 4A, 4A, 5A, 5A, 6A for their size 1 to size 6 AGM batteries.

Size 1 to size 6 AGM Yuasa batteries have a capacity of 50A, 60A, 70A, 80A, 95A, 105A respectively.

I suspect these recommended charge rates would also be suitable for other top brands such as Varta.

Thanks for those recommendations folks. Just to confirm for the avoidance of doubt, are these safe to leave connected to the battery to keep the voltage stable for say something like an infotainment system firmware upgrade?

On the Bosch C1 battery charger, there's an LED light that comes on when the battery is fully charged. So it doesn't stay on.

The NOCO one you can leave it connected forever ( just don't try starting the engine with it connected ;)) as it enters a float/conditioning mode

I've been eyeing up those solar-powered battery chargers.

I don't need it to charge my battery, just stop it discharging, when my car is parked and my dashcam is in park mode.

Something I could plug into the 12v socket would be ideal, but my spidey-sense is tingling about whether these products actually can be connected via the 12v socket.

I don't think the dashcam needs much current though, so even if it does next to nothing, that's a bit better than nothing.
