Hey folks, couple questions.... 

I've done a few cam belts before, Escort zetec, pug 406 (absolute ****** including head removal for a skim) so tbh I am not too worried as there appears to be a fair bit of room, but I wonder if there is some technical info so I can fabricate a locking pin, and determine anything else I need to know like torque settings etc...? I see Haynes only do a manual for the diesel engine of this age, which is disappointing!

Also, looking at cambelt kits + water pumps normally I go for Gates kits are there any other recommendations?

What engine code do you have ? ( engine serial number on logbook first set of letters is the code)

 

Looking at the manual for the BWA code engine, the only locking pin required is for the Aux belt tensioner and normally a 1/8" drill bit works ok 

Ah damn, logbook is at home... is there a number from the engine or chassis?

There might be a sticker on the cambelt cover or in the spare wheel area there should be a build sticker with the engine, gearbox, paint code and PR codes, the same sticker can be found in the service book as well, you really need this to ensure you get the correct cambelt kit

Everything seemed to go well folks, struggled with the allen screws in the aux pulley, and had to remove the right hand engine mount and ant-torque mount in order to shift the engine enough to pull the left engine mount out! So engine just sat on jacks.

 

Just gotta do the high pressure fuel pump next as I think that is well overdue! Performance is a little down too, maybe due to the latter?
