Coolant Leak

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2017 rapid space back with a coolant leak it is 1.2tsi with around 34k on the clock. I have had a friend check where the leak is coming from and said it is from the water pump as I couldn’t see any signs that it was coming from there, he said that this is a common issue with this engine as he has seen them in VWs and Seat vehicles too.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what it actually turned out to be and whether they had to replace the full water pump or mentioned to me was a small gasket inside which could be replaced.

I am booked in for the 9th at a local garage, but just looking for some information.

Thanks.

If its dripping out under the vehicle somewhere try some K-Seal. A bit more expensive that Rad Weld but it stops most leaks 1st go.

Sounds a bit like the plastic casing is cracked or distorted, and that will get replaced by your workshop I'd think, so I'd lay off loading any gunge into the clean coolant system.

Yeah, hopefully it can be sorted with not too much of an expense. My first though was the head gasket had gone as I couldn't see the coolant, but since being shown it, I gathered it wasn't that.

Just makes the pessimistic bit of me wonder if this will fail in my wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI before the first suspension coil spring breaks - I've already got almost enough G12evo 50% mix coolant left from when I replaced the coolant in my car though - and a Draper Vacuum Coolant Refill Kit!!

Thats a quick way to not only invalidate any warranty you might have but also a complete bodge and possibly cause more blockages....

Simple answer is, find the leak, fix the leak. Dont go throwing random liquids in or cracking eggs in the system...

Yeah 100% plan on fixing the root cause as I plan on keeping the car for a long time! Had it 2 years and the first thing to fault/break.
