Tyre pressure monitor + winter wheels

Featured Replies

When changing to winter wheels. what do you do with TPM?

Assuming the TPMS is the indirect type which does not have pressure monitors in the wheels, all you do is change the wheels, set the tyre pressures, then in the menus, reinitiallise the system.

If you already have your tyre pressures correct, and the winter set are all the same pressure (even if it is different to your summer pressure) then there is reasonable chance won’t even have to reset on the screen.

The indirect ones detect a difference between the wheels, not record a pressure in each wheel

But check pressures every few weeks anyway and reset the TPMS.  As the book says 'check' the TPMS,

Maybe change your pressures with the summer weather, or the load being carried etc, and reset the TPMS each time.

When you are confirming tyre pressures, certainly on my 1.0SEL DSG, there is a box to tick to show if you are using winter tyres.  When ticked (as I found out by accident) a warning sound and message pccurr if you go over 20mph.

That box is to tick and then you can set the Winter Tyres Speed Warning at the speed you want it to warn at.

You have another speed Warning as well as the winter tyre one you can set.

There are countries that require the warning by law, that might just need a sticker, but it is standard on VW Group cars.

As I've never switched it on intentionally, I've always just cancelled straight away without exploring further.
