Bird muck

Featured Replies

Remember if you don’t remove bird droppings as soon as possible you will get lacquer damage that will not buff out easily if at all.the lime in it is powerful stuff.Ofcourse if good quality polish is on your car to start with you lesson the risk..m

Polish makes no difference as it's used to correct defects, it doesn't leave a protective film (AIO products generally leave some protection but you'll be lucky if that lasts much beyond a month).  A good wax might provide a little protection, and I expect a ceramic coating might provide a little more, but ultimately you want bird poo off ASAP (generally within 48 hours) before it eat into the clear coat because as you said that won't polish out.

To remove guano, a soft cloth soaked in hot water and applied to the droppings for a little while if possible will soften it so it's easier to remove, you don't want to go in scraping it off and scratching everything.

And of course, prevention is better than cure so generally avoid parking under trees where possible (also honeydew won't damage paint but it's unsightly and makes it hard to see out!)

You can get specific bird poo remover and it works okay, but them so does water and a bit of a wipe.

I have some waterless car wash spray that I keep in my boot and that does a decent enough job if I'm away from home and get a bird mess on my car and haven't got access to a water supply.

A still wet Tea Bag (having made tea) put on the bird poo does a good job of softening it before using warm water to flush off the poo before doing a clean up.
