Temperature gauge - what is normal?

Featured Replies

Could anyone with a 2014 2.0 TDI tell me why the expected “normal” running temperature should be?

also does the needle move, once up to temperature?

Many thanks

Mine runs at 90 degrees for water and about 98 for oil.
The water is fixed at 90 so when up to temperature if a little below or above it will always read that.
The oil temperature fluctuates depending on engine load or if it is doing a DPF regeneration when it gets to perhaps 106.

Many thanks.

I have had a number of VW Group cars, and the water is always 90 but on the Yeti I am looking to buy, it sits just below 90.

probably worrying about nothing but thought I should check!

It could just be the needle sweep needs calibrating using VCDS.

VCDS will also tell you what the real temperature is.

Otherwise you will have to use an IR temp gun on the radiator hoses.

Something like 88 .. 90 C, depending on the car. It should reach this after about 5 minutes, and then stay put unless it's getting very hot, and the fans cut in "high".

Mine used to take about 5 minutes in the summer and 10 minutes in the winter to reach the 90c.

It would stay happily at this figure, even on one extreme occasion of a 660 mile caravan tow in 30c temperatures.

To reach the "indicated" 90°

The CR engines with the sliding sleeve water pump get heat through the heater in cold winter conditions 3 times faster than the PD engines.
