Skoda Superb amundsen map update

Featured Replies

Hi, Just returned to a skoda and this forum after 10 years break.

Question..... just purchased new 2022 Superb 1984 cc  DSG  SE-L TRIM.  Petrol.........

The Navigation map has shops etc that closed years ago.... so either not removed from the nav data base or i need an update.   Have spoken with skoda customer services via live text chat and they said new cars dont have SD cards anymore and it is updated via the GPS system direct to the car.......  has anyone used this method  , if so how long does it take to download and i assume ignition has to be on or maybe engine running as well ?

Second question .....  map does not show speed limit of road i am using ....... does this limit only show on car screens or map when traffic sign recognition is installed ( which i dont have )........  Any help would be appreciated.    I dont find the manual very helpful.

Regards  Keppy

I have a similar 2021 version of your car.

Yes the map updates do download automatically, seems to vary how long it takes depending upon signal strength of the chip in the car.

It downloads via the cars embedded SIM not via your phone.

You also have to pay after the first year to continue the service.

Once you have accepted the update you can leave the car to complete the process whether the ignition is on or off.

My map does show speed limits on roads but I recall you have to tick this option in Settings in order for it to show.

If there is an update for your Amundsen it should show under Notifications.

Thank you Hozz for your helpful reply.  I do now have a notification telling me there is an update....... So what you are saying is once i start the update i can just park up anywhere there is a signal and it will continue to download regardless of engine running or ignition on ?

I dont appear to have in notifications ( assume i am looking in the correct area )  about switching on option to see road speed limit, maybe that is part of  the ROAD SIGN recognition option which i dont have ..... do you have it as an option on your car ?

Appreciate your help.....

Many thanks.

Once an update has started it will continue when the ignition is switched off.

If you pull down from the top of the screen and go into Privacy Settings and Services make sure Online Map Update and Speed Notification are ticked.

Honestly, don't worry about anything like how long your ignition is on, stopping the car, etc etc. You're 100% fine to just use your car and pay no attention to whether software is downloading etc, it is.

Oh p.s. not all road speed limits are shown. I was using a B road in Yorkshire at the weekend and no limit was shown on it.

Also be wary on unfamiliar roads, as I know of at least one road in my area that has a 50mph stretch because of having loads of side-junctions, and the nav shows 60mph at least 1/3rd of a mile before actually getting to the physical road sign where it does go back to 60mph. Whether it's a GPS issue or the nav doing something wrong, just be careful in case Plod is watching for 'early adopters'!

As with all things satnav, add a pinch of salt to what it tells you.

To be honest I don't usually use the in-built satnav much because it is not always up to date.

I just use Waze via ApplePlay.

It gives a lot more information than the in-built system, it shows up on the same screen and always give speed limits, accidents and delays.

Thanks again Hozz.

I think i managed to download an update of the system etc. I didnt receive any msg to say download was complete......   where can i check what is the latest version and where will that show on the screen ?

Also   i managed to find the option in privacy which switched on the speed limits.

Also  shows the local retail shops and petrol stations etc, nice to have yet some of those sites have been closed for years......  Can retail be switched off ?

To find out your latest version go to System Settings, System Information.

To turn POI's on or off go to the map, click the 3 dots at the bottom, select the cogged wheels, Basic Functions, Basic Function settings and Define preferred POI Categories.

Do you mean navigation database version or is there separate map version visible somehow?
