Hi again all. I ordered my discs and brakes and all seem to be good. The only query I have is that the front pads do have a wear sensor/cable but I don’t seem to see that on my vehicle. I see a wire on both sides front but assume that is something related to abs and/or the awd system …

Yeah you don't have to use the wire if you don't need it, just cut it if it's built into the pad. But you might not see the wear wire on the car until you get the wheel off. It's pretty neat in to the caliper and will possibly only be on one side, most commonly the passenger side.

 

The wires you see on both sides will most likely be the ABS sensor wires yes.

Thanks - yeah it turned out I didn’t have one and was able to just ‘ping’ the wire off from the pad. Discs and pads all done today and wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Hardest thing was getting the wheels off that had clearly been air bolted on from when I had the tyres done!

The Octavia MK3 2.0TDI 150PS might have 288mm front brakes and 253mm rear brakes, ie. build codes 1ZE and 1KD.

 

The 288mm and 312mm front brakes use the same brake pads, eg. TRW GDB1956, ATE 13046027852, etc.

 

Front Brakes

1ZF 276mm TRW

1ZE 288mm TRW

1ZA 312mm TRW

1ZB 312mm TRW (Same as 1ZA, except calipers are red)

1LG 340mm TRW (calipers are red)

 

Rear Brakes

1KD 253mm TRW

1KS 272mm TRW

1KT 272mm TRW (Same as 1KS, except calipers are red)

1KW 310mm TRW (calipers are red)

According to Jurid on autodoc, the Octavia MK3 1.5TSI has build codes 1ZE and 1KD.
