Mk2 1.9tdi intermittent jerkiness

Featured Replies

Hello,

My estate manual 1.9tdi Octavia is playing up a little and cannot seem to find the solution online before taking it to a VAG specialist.

Its a fairly high mileage car - 261k. Been good as gold for the 2 years i have owned it other than the starter motor going.

Once the engine is warm and been driven for at least half hour I get a "jerk" as if someone stamped on the brakes for a second. it can be violent. This is almost always as I pass 1800 RPM. The issue is normally exacerbated by a lot of stop start traffic.

If i feed the revs in with the clutch it seems to avoid it.

if i go very slowly passed the 1800 mark say on the motorway it seems ok.

For normal around town 2nd-4th if i give it a bit of load it can be harsh. sometimes in a carpark it is enough to knock the engine off. starts up right away tho.

I did 900 miles in it this weekend going from Poole (where i live to Scotland and back) was crap after being stuck on the M27 Friday morning for an hour. On the way back yesterday it blipped once during the whole trip as i accelerated on the A34 other than that it didn't show,

I would like to have a go at fixing it myself but unless someone says its XX, without having access to a code reader I'm a bit stuck.

I suspect the injector wiring, there are posts on here detailing the easy DIY fix at no cost.

Thanks MicMac that doesn't seem too hard to try, i will get a gasket and a new loom on order as they don't seem to pricy.

The gasket probably can be reused and you only need to squeeze the female spade connectors for a tighter connection =£0.00

Videos on the Tube detailing the procedure.
