Also called metalized windshields, athermic windshields have a very thin reflective coating that acts as a screen or filter to deflect most of the solar (infrared) rays of the sun while allowing visible light to pass through the glass.

I know what they are, the question is is one installed

Easiest way to check is to view your car through the rear view mirror of another car, it's quite obvious then.

What is one looking for??

The VW/Skoda heated front windscreens  look different from unheated ones, with a pinkish reflective sheen, as seen in the attached photo. Compare the Golf which has a heated front screen with the Volvo unheated front screen.

@NiamhDo they cause an issue with the Libere-t- tag being read through the glass?

EDIT.

I have my answer.     I did think there must be many that do have the screens like supercars...

I'm not too sure about your car but most VAG windscreens have an area near the rear view mirror to allow such things to be fitted.

Yep, but the dealer installed the camera there with the lens just looking through the clear area.

We can probably just squeeze it in, but if we have more flexibility as to location then so much the better

I Don't think athermic is the same as heated though

It's not, my brother has a Vauxhall Zafira with an athermic windscreen (so he had to mount his Emovis Liber-t tag in the specially marked area) which definitely is not heated.
