Problem with Android Auto and Samsung S22+ Phone

Featured Replies

After waiting almost 12 months for my new Karoq Sportline, it has finally been delivered. The car is mostly great and, fortunately for me, did not come with features missing due to the semiconductor shortage. I am however having one problem that I have been unable to resolve. When I connect my new Samsung S22+ smartphone to use Android Auto, the voice assistance is completely unintelligible. All I hear are small bits of broken words. Music however plays perfectly, all other functions are fine. It is only the voice assistant which does not work. I have tried upgrading to the latest version of Android Auto (and even the beta version) without success. I have tried connecting via USB cable, but the same problem remains. I would like to know if any other drivers have had this issue with the Samsung Galaxy S22+. I do not know whether the problem is with the phone or the car.

I should have also included that I have the Columbus infotainment system with the Canton speakers.

Amundsen here and S21, but the google assistant voice reading out the wotsapp messages doesn't seem to finish a full sentence any more.

The android-auto app on the phone can connect via bluetooth, wifi or usb cable and mine seems to use wifi happily.

I think it clashes with built in nav and voice assist.

had a few times now when just talking while driving and the infotainment voice assistant pipes up when we say the work "OK"...
Also took a while to get it to stop playing the same podcast everytime google started

I may have finally solved this problem, although I am not sure how I did it. After reinstalling Android Auto on my phone multiple times (even the new beta version) without success, I found that I could temporarily get it to work by going to the Apps screen on my phone, selecting Android Auto, then storage, then delete the data and cache. The next time I was in the car it worked !  That was the good news, the bad news is that as soon as I used any of the Android Apps (Muzio, TuneIn,etc), the voice assistant once again sounded like a broken robot.

Today I somehow fiddled with the configuration settings in the Infotainment and started the whole process again from square one. It meant that all contacts, home address, etc had to be re-entered. But the voice assistant worked again. I have now been trying it for the last couple of hours and it is still working. If it is still working tomorrow I will start to believe that the problem is solved.

By the way, I asked the dealer for assistance about this several days ago and still waiting for anyone to return my call. I would not buy another car from that dealership - ever.
