Sudden (and temporary!) Infotainment death. This may be of interest.

Just logging this here in case a Superb user experiences the same, may help you understand and deal with the issue.

My issue yesterday in a nutshell was that I was out in the car and around 30 mins into the journey was flashed an error message that SOS was not working. I soon afterwards realised the GPS was out of whack as I was on the A1, not a field 2 miles from it - needless to say the satnav went nuts trying to recalculate my route. I tried a soft reset of the infotainment by holding the power button down. Following that, it remained stuck on the user login screen the whole journey, although I could switch it off and back on, but could not login and use anything.

I did notice every time I tried switching it off, it would briefly show the software version screen before turning off. I have a suspicion therefore that the software had been updating in the first 30 mins and then had an error while trying to install it. I was on a day out so the car was left for hours but, as suspected, when I returned and started the car everything was back to normal (software update now completed correctly, if my suspicion is correct).  2.5hrs of driving later it had not happened again.

I highly doubt it was weather related, as yes the car was in the sun before we set off at 9am, but the thermometer showed 32 degrees when we wet off home, so I am ruling that out.

Touch wood for no repeats, thought this may be useful anyway in casr anyone else gets this.

Frankly I see no point taking it into the dealership at this point, as they will just say they are unable to replicate the fault - which is fair enough, unless it happens again and stays that way.

I did initially add a reply here in the Kamiq thread (having performed a search for this issue on the forum):

I get this happening regularly (roughly once a week) and have not found a root cause or a solution.  Would love to hear from anybody who can shed more light.

Hi, just searched for 'SOS' on Briskoda and came upon your post.

I can help you out as that's exactly what happened to me yesterday. Car  ( kodiaq ) 20 months old, 1st SOS warning of any kind, then Sat nav on my dash started moving me over to the lake district and I ended up in the middle of the Irish Sea :D

I tried a reset ( hold power button for 10secs ) but the system hung on reboot and I couldn't use it at all. Stopped at service station about an hour later - waited 20mins, still nothing. Drove the remainder of the journey with no infotainment.

It's all working again today but thought I'd at least register the problem with my local dealer. Straight away they said it's an issue that several people have reported and Skoda have released updated software ( they just haven't informed owners of the known problem / fix ). Car booked in to have the upgrade. They said the update has worked for everyone else and are quietly confident it will solve any further issues.

Hope that's of some use to you.

Edit:  If anyone is wondering what the SOS message means,  the car is informing you that the SOS system ( which auto calls emergency services if the airbags are deployed ) isn't working. So it's still perfectly safe to drive the car.  I'm sure VW / Skoda could have warned you of this without us thinking there's some major fault with the car and it's about to blow up.

Thanks very much.  Will contact my dealer and get it booked in.

Thanks.

I haven't had it back again since the first time, so I am inclined to just leave it until the first service gets done and I'll ask then.

I had my fill of dealer visits when I was trying to get the software on my MK4 Octavia sorted (well documented in the relevant forum section!) so I have no appetite to start all that business again.

(Unless it happens again haha)
