Real world battery capacity

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm iV 60 owner,

Latest trip was 287km (179mi), it used 94% of battery, excellent weather for EV trip, around 30C (85F) temperature, medium A/C usage, no strong winds or rain.
Average consumption was 16.4kWh/100km (3.79mi/kWh).

The above adds up to 302km (188mi) of real-word range.

However, my main concern is usable battery capacity i get doing all the math

Let's do them.

In km
((16.4x287)/100)/0.94=50kwh total capacity

Or, in miles
(178/3.19)/0.94= 50kwh

That's far behind the official specs of 58kwh usable capacity.

Any ideas?

If this continues, I’d go to the dealer with your concerns

Checking the car with a 62kW battery but a usable capacity of 58kW is easy.

Run it to near empty and then charge to 100% checking how many kWh it takes.

An Average consumption is just that, a reading showing.  *The average consumption is what is questionable not the battery.*

94% of 58 kWh is 54.52 kWh.

179 miles divided by 54.52 = 3.28 miles to the kWh.

6% left is 3.48 kWh X 3.28 = 11.4 miles.

 ***179+11.4 =190.4 miles.

 from the 58 kWh. ***

PS

287 km is just under 178.5 miles.

I don't know if the battery is unquestionable.

Your car seems pretty good getting 3.28 miles to a kWh in a high temperature like that.  You covered the distance expected from 58kWh usable.     I have a rubbish car with a 50 kW battery and 45 usable.  I get 3.2 miles a kWh if the ambient temp is below 20*oC and as it gets higher less.  That is with a heat pump and the AC not asked to keep the inside too cool.

the cosra sounds poor, I have been getting 4.2 m/kWh recently

It is.

They are cars that get ICE or EV power trains. More efficient as an ICE.  Happiest when the ambient temp is 18*oC.
