Traffic sign recognition

Featured Replies

I note in the updated Kamiq brochure that this feature is now standard on the SEL Executive. When I ordered mine back in March this was an option as part of the Travel Assist pack. Now I have the car I’m wondering whether the TSR can be enabled via a software adjustment eg through VCDS. After all the front camera is there (for lane assist), it’s a question of whether there needs to be a physical module or chip. Any ideas?

Hello Marine, provided you have the correct camera (which it sounds as if you have) the modification is simply done via software.

I wouldn’t like to mess with software settings myself.  Perhaps I should contact the dealer or possibly a VAG auto electrical specialist- there is an excellent one near me.

Chances are he will have the highline camera yes but theres a 99% chance its a 2Q0 camera - In which case its impossible to add traffic sign recognition as this requires a SWaP code hack which no one has been able to crack currently.

If on the other hand its an older 3Q0 camera then it can be done easily enough.

Thanks both, it seems odd that the older camera is amenable to modification but I’m sure you know what you’re talking about.

Hi ApertureS, I’ve just realised that you seem to have a business specialising in retrofits. I’m not in London but I may be in touch if I’m ever down that way if that’s ok.

My experience of speed limit recognition in our Karoq is that it is very hit and miss. The dash indication seems to be partly from the maps in the satnav, and partly from reading the signs. The satnav frequently has the limit incorrect, and reading the signs is no more accurate. Signs are masked by overgrown foliage, other vehicles or not even present. The car can easily pick up a 40mph sign on slip road from a 70mph road and the cruise can slam th brakes on. I was in Austria, and although it generally worked OK there, on entering some towns there were signs indicating the town had a 30kph limit except the road I was on, but it can't read 'ausgenommen B170'.

I dread to think waht is going to happen when the new EU law about cars not being able to exceed the limits come in, as my car didn't know what the limits are. I hope that it can be disabled and I hope this isn't made law here.

Interesting, thanks. TBH I don’t really see what the massive advantage of TSR is, as I’m not so decrepit (yet) that I don’t watch the road ahead and drive accordingly. Which is why I switch off lane assist as soon as I get in the car. But, I’m a sucker for techie stuff and if I can get TSR activated for a reasonable amount then I will.

When it comes to TSR everyone mentions SAWP codes. Has anyone managed to get / purchase a swap code for this from Skoda UK

Hi,

I recently picked up our 2022 Kamiq SEL executive, ordered ours in February.

I wanted sign recognition and was told that is extra. Once I started messing within the maps, I found sign recognition wasn't ticked. I know have speed signs etc and traffic alerts on our maps, the speed doesn't show on the virtual cockpit though.

Just no speed camera alerts which is annoying.

Thanks

Rob

I don’t bother with the inbuilt navigation, I prefer to use Apple maps, the display I find is more attractive and informative. They don’t show speed limits or cameras until you are navigating somewhere, albeit the speed limit is on the infotainment screen not on the virtual dash.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone managed to get speed limit showing on digital dash as well as on navigation maps. Our Kamiq Monte Carlo had it from new but having changed to SEL Executive and assumed it would be there but no joy from dealer as yet as to why. Living in Drakefords socialist republic of Wales we find speed limits constantly changing.

I don't know about the Kamiq, but our Karoq has displayed on the digital dash from new.

It was on our Kamiq Monte Carlo from new. Assumed it would be on SEL Executive.

Regrettably no. On the SEL Exec it’s part of the travel assist option.

eastyorkshireretrofit solutions can activate the swap on 2q cameras for TSR

Has traffic sign recognition on my 21 plate kamiq sel it notices gantry signs speed limits if reduced and other signs are behind the speed sign like humped bridge hidden junction and so on. It’s on satnav screen I slide speed icon left to view others but it just shows speed in VC

Keep to speed limits and it won’t be annoying 🤣
