Brake pads thickness when new. 2.0tsi hatch 190 sportline 2020

Featured Replies

Hi about to get a oil change and inspection and I'm just waiting for those upsell 80% worn brake pads pollen filter Air filter calls.... Does anyone know what the new and minimum pad thicknesses are? Where's the best place to buy genuine Skoda filters from so they don't see I've done it.

Also is there a brake pad wear indicator alarm?

TIA you helpful people

Tell them you have changed the Pollen / Cabin Filter and leave alone.   Go to a local Motor Factors and buy one.

Have a look at your brake pads and see the wear on them now.

?

How many miles has your car done?

Why waste money on an Oil & Inspection Service if you can do stuff yourself?

If you need an Oil & Filter Service get that.

If you need an Inspection then go where you trust if you do not know what is what.

Change the Pollen filter, or clean it out if dry, vacuum it, vacuum the area, wash and disinfect.

It is a 2 year thing or sooner.

Check your Air Filter.

It is a 6 year thing, check it annually.

.......................

A 1st or 2nd Service @ 2 years old is virtually nothing, and the Pollen Filter cost at a Main Dealership is ridiculous.

Yes i could do it myself but can't be bothered any more and don't fancy arguing with them about the warranty being invalid even if using genuine Skoda parts. I also want the book stamped Hence my post asking about brake pad thickness so i can say they don't need replacing. Thanks for the detailed service schedule.

The manufacturer's service requirements is the oil  and filter change @2 years and milage.  Buy the pollen filter from the parts desk then, tps or whoever or pay the £35.   No need to argue brake thickness. Ask them to tell you the actual measurements if they say 20% worn or 80%.  You just ask to talk to a master tech not a receptionist.    If you pay full cost and a premium for simple inspections do at least get good customer service.

Get the body inspection, the roadtest, the reports, the diagnosis etc etc.  That is why they are charging so much.  All for a FMDSH.

Specs of pads / discs are there for an easy check.

Wow fantastic info. :-) Pad thickness duly noted. Sadly I'm in NI so £17.50 courier charge > 1.75kg 😞

Note: With such a thickness value, it probably includes the backing plate, though not explicitly written.

When I had my 220 in for it's 75k kms service last week, they indicated the minimum brake thickness required is 3mm.

Mine was measured at 7mm.  So still plenty of life left in them after 64k kms :)

Rather than post every PR Code combo, here's how VAG measures pad thickness, and you can also see how many mm you can loose off the discs too

So @JR RS you should be looking a min pad 2mm, as they don't include backing plate as specified.

For comparison to above example from @roottoot here are VAG specs

Thanks for that.

Do u have a similar thing for the rear brakes - PR Code is 1KU (300mm rotors)?

Legend!!

Thank u :)

I hope it was a sizable contribution and not then paying part of a hiked up bill when the total cost of parts and labour should have been paid.  They like gesture contributions and like offering those because people tend to accept rather than get the issue resolved free of charge.   No doubt they have never seen the issue before.

Initially posted in a different thread.

There is really next to no reason not to do air filters yourself with a high quality part. I reckon I'd spend more time telling the service people not to do it when booking, then repeating myself at the check in, then checking they didn't do it and charge me than doing it myself.

I jest but it's a 5min job max.

Pollen filter a bit trickier but still a 5min job or 15min for a first time noob like me (watching YouTube and doing it..).

What the SC charges for those is next level robbery.
