Thanks

I am after the MFD2 not the old MFD though. The vw MFD2 £500 the skoda version £850.

£350 extra seems a lot for some green lights and a logo.

Any pics of MFD2. Not into all these code words. Its all just sat nav to me.

MFD2 is for New octavia, MFD is for Fabia and Octavia MK I.

green skoda version from www.skoda.de (version E I think)

(noticing that in LHD you can get heated seats on a vRS II but skoda will not supply them in the UK market)

and the orange vw version

So is it to go into an Octavia 2?

Yes, new Octavia.

Ahh that little bit of info would have helped ;)

The GPS unit is built into the aerial base btw.

MFD is usually the name given to the Multi Function Display in the dash insert, this is where I got confused.

So just to be sure I understand,

a factory fit satnav on the octavia II has the gps built into the roof aerial but a retrofit comes with a different aerial that is placed under the dash somewhere?

Factory sat nav deffo has the GPS antena built into the aerial base. However I would have thought you could hook up a factory antena to the 'MFD2' unit for a factory look.

www.satnavsystems.com might be of some help to you, its where I got my original MFD for Fabia from but they deal with all versions and makes of the MFD.

Aerial as mentioned will just become an internal one (pictured below) which can be placed anywhere you like. Unless you go through the route of re-wiring your entire car to have an external one (me thinks not!)

I have just just bought a Skoda MDF2 unit from ebay. Are there any install instructions on this forum or web that I can install this myself.

Yes, you can install it yourself ! Just plug in and it will work:thumbup:

Only if you bought a slightly older version you can get the message SAFEPIN NICHT ANGESCHLOSSEN. Simply connect the safe-pin to UB+ and it will work. You can see the pins on the sticker that is on top of the MFD so you can tell wich pins are Safe and UB+.

Can anyone help please?

Just bought and installed a new MFD 2 Sat Nav and installed into my 2005 Octavia II. Works ok, just 1 minor detail. No audio! Connected a Nokia speaker to one of the speaker out terminals and this works OK. I have the upgraded 12 speaker system, which I think there's an Amp somewhere (maybe under Passenger seat). Does the Radio need to be coded somehow to work with the uprated sound system? Or is it a VAG Com setting? Please HELP!!!

Neil, this will be a big dissapointement for you. There is no sound because the MFD2 or Nexus won't work in combination with the Soundsystem !! This has to do with the power supply to the amplifier of the soundsystem. I don't now if these are the right words but the MFD2 is not capable to send power to the amplifier !! That is why you can't order Nexus in combination with Soundsystem when you configur a new car !

I am sure that with a bit of ingenuity this could be made to work as all the amp needs is a 12V signal to say the radio is on, this could be done by having the amp power up when the ignition is on or a discrete switch.

John

Or how about the 12v ariel signal being tapped with a scotchblock and the amp listening to this. Then wire the amp to a proper 12v supplay and you uncle should now be called bob ;)

Yes all true, could work that way ! But the Sound System is factory fitted, so what about warranty when you sc**w up ???

By installing sat nav yourself your warranty on such items expired. ;)

Hi there,

Can you please tell me which radio/CD you had installed in your car prior to installing the MFD2. In mine its the Stream sytem and it actually looks larger than the MFD2 so I'm not sure if the fittings in the centre console are the same. If they are I might just have to get a replacement console surround

You have to get a replacement console surround, the MFD2 is smaller !

I have just been down to the local Skoda dealer. I have ordered a new aluminium looking centre consol panel for

It's as if the Amp isn't switching on. How does the audio connect to the amp on the audience unit, please, please don't tell me it's digital via the CanBus or something stupid like that. Can the amp be made to switch on on ignition say?

How desperate am I to get this working? Well before I went on holiday, I left the car with my local dealer, Parkside Skoda in Bolton. Fair play they had a good crack at the whip in trying, they reckoned it should be posiible. But alas told me the head unit is incompatible with the car's setup. Total cost from Parkside
