Primary User - Help me avoid a trip to the dealership

Featured Replies

Hi,

So I took delivery of my brand new kodiaq about 2 weeks ago and so far I'm loving the car apart from 1 thing, I cannot get the primary user set up! I've read the many numerous threads on this forum and elsewhere and tried everything. Skoda digital support took me through some steps basically involving a factory reset of the infotainment system then restarting the set up from scratch. I can get as far as the step of confirming the primary user by pressing the two keys and then I typically get 2 different errors -

- "Sorry function timed out. Please press the unlock buttons quickly one after the other" This one is weird because I'm pressing the buttons about as quickly as possible after each other

- "Please try again or contact customer services"

After the latest round of trying to resolve things Skoda digital support have advised I visit the nearest service centre and ask them to do the following -

"Workshop: Kindly perform WFS (new adaption of keys to immobilizer) and then let the Bus CAN unit fall asleep (turn off vehicle, lock vehicle and leave it at least 30min), Then enroll again. If the problem persist,  open DISS ticket."

My nearest service centre is quite far away and it's a few weeks before they can fit me in.

Does anyone have any experience of this and any other suggestions to resolve this to help me avoid a trip to the dealership?

Thanks!

I’m afraid I don’t think you will fix this without a dealership visit.

This may be a draft thing to say but you may actually be pressing the unlock buttons too quickly for the second press to register and then it's timing out.  I only say this as on ours we press the unlock button twice to unlock all doors and if we are too quick between pressed it doesn't.  We have to press at about one to one and a half second interval between them.

When I did it I pressed them at exactly the same time and it worked fine.

Thanks everyone. I'll give both those a try first. Does sound like ill have no choice but to make a trip to the dealers.ill post back if I get it working!

I don't usually reply to stuff like this because I'm not sure even the programmers know how Skoda Connect works in practice. It's hasn't been tested properly, that's for sure.

If you want to avoid contacting the dealership then I'd try re-registering with a different email address. ( worked for me ). I'm convinced that somewhere in the programming, a black flag is assigned to an email address if the registration process fails under a certain set of criteria. So no matter if you then follow the procedures correctly, that email address will always be blocked.

Whatever this DISS ticket is, my best guess is an administrator will reset the permissions on the account.

At least worth a try if nothing else.

This isn’t an error in profile registration but that the car isn’t physically detecting the two keys so no matter what happens the OP won’t be able to progress to set the primary user until the car detects those two keys and the fix for that as outlined by Skoda themselves seems to need a dealer to be involved.

OP has described the same issue I had with my MIB3 system. In my case, the solution was registering with a different email address.

This is why I prefer to avoid questions with setting up systems because MIB3 + Skoda Connect defies logic.

Your car said that the keys couldn’t be detected?

I had problems setting up primary user but it was different error message and before you got to the key detection part.

Sorry mate, I can't make myself any clearer than I have done already.

Hi, I don't usually go as far as register at a forum, but apparently this is not a standalone problem, because I found the thread exactly by the line "perform WFS (new adaption of keys to immobilizer) and then let the Bus CAN unit fall asleep (turn off vehicle, lock vehicle and leave it at least 30min), Then enroll again. If the problem persist,  open DISS ticket" - apparently the standard set of "IDK-what's-going-on-let's-do-smth" reply 🙂 have you managed to solve the issue or has it been a trip to the dealership in the end? This failure to register a primary user has been ahunting me since around June 2022, to no avail. I've contacted the dealership, already drove to the one which sold me the car, and it just remains - it just got worse, not only cannot I register the primary user, but a guest option is gone as well. Skoda main dealership has also suggested doing a factory reset, yet unfortunately, the instructions provided (latest on November 21, 2022) did not solve the problem of not being able to add a user. Here is the test run:

- ignition on (without starting the engine)
- factory reset
- after selecting "users" in the menu, the following message appears: "Guest + "
- after adding a "Guest", a request for an e-mail address and password is displayed
- after entering the e-mail and password, from the "register" or "log in" options, "log in" was selected
- first the message "downloading settings" appears and then "unfortunately, settings could not be downloaded"
And that's it.
The system information is:
- software: 1896
- ABT software: 2088
And one more puzzling thing I noticed
On the smartphone, after selecting the "My Skoda" icon, wanting to read my Skoda Connect services, I noticed the Care Connect and Infotaiment online services, active for the period until April 14, 2023 (paid till this date).
Because this "fun" with the main user has been going on for almost 4 months, I told them I'd go anywhere they can get it fixed. 🙂
