Recalls vs Service campaigns

Featured Replies

Recently Skoda had a recall/service campaign as below.

Does anyone know how to identify whether this is a recall or a service campaign?

AFAIK no easy way to determine if it's one or the other.

IMHO: -

Recalls are more safety related issues

Service Campaign are to fix something less critical

This is clear and was the primary reason for asking. I got a call to bring my car in but got an appointment in September. Want to check how to differentiate because if it is a recall then I will push for a much earlier appointment.

Odds are that will be a lower level Service Campaign (if I have that correct) as it's probably a batch of duff sensors that got fitted.

So not safety related, and your car will happily pootle along, as until you checked you didn't have any cause for concern.

I dare say that some had experienced empty tanks with say 1/4 or 1/8th showing on display, so this is investigated and then becomes this "we'll fix them when they come in for servicing"

They might call it a RECALL.

But it is a Recall Action or a Service Campaign or a Workshop Action if REGISTERED KEEPERS of a Vehicle is not getting notified that the VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED. Regardless of if they use a Dealership for servicing.

Only contacting those the Dealership network have contact details for is not enough.

Safety Critical Recalls are obviously Safety Matters but VW Group can get Authorities to believe they will do a Voluntary Recall.

A formal recall will be by a letter, and be for a safety related matter (for example an issue with the airbag system).

A service campaign will be non-safety works which may be carried out during a routine service (eg the diesel engine "fixes")

VW Group did a WORLD WIDE Recall, even called a GLOBAL RECALL on DQ200 DSG's by the Media. (New Zealand had only hundreds of cars affected so they all got new Mechatronic Control Units.)  In Australia there has been 3 RECALLS all for the same issue as vehicles were missed .

It excluded Europe that somehow is not in the World because VW Group said so.

2 years later they decided they had best do something and in the EU & the UK they got away with a Voluntary Service Campaign,

Letters did go out, not to every Registered Keeper even though the DVLA gave them, there were cars 'In Trade' as in sitting at Skoda Dealers that never got the Service Campaign action and people that never took cars in, then others that were told it did not affect their car.  New Keepers never did get a Letter.
