Oil level too high warning

Featured Replies

A couple of weeks back I took my car for an interim at a local garage. I have had no issues with the car prior to this service. A couple of days later I got a warning message about the oil level being too high. I checked the dipstick and it was within range [just]. The warning cleared, but then has subsequently come back on an intermittent basis.

My partner took the car back yesterday and explained, they think it is likely to be the sensor. Is it possible that they have damaged the sensor in the process of topping up the oil for the service? Would the garage normally pay for this sensor replacement in a circumstance like this, or am I to believe it is just a coincidence?

Many thanks.

No, but they may have simply refilled with a bit too much.

What oil does the invoice say they used and what quantity?

When you checked it and found it to be just within range, was that with a cold engine, or once warmed up?

Your profile doesn't mention car details from what I can see.

Diesel with DPF that fail the regen cycle can I believe fill engine oil with diesel.

If you have petrol, then please ignore above.

^^^ This.

What is the engine and how much oil was charged for at the service and are you checking the oil level when the car is at operating temp, as in the engine oil has been up to 90*oC or so then parked on the flat for a few minutes.

Warning messages like low oil, low oil pressure, high oil after the bonnet has been opened for 30 seconds.

They can stay off for 60 miles.

Yes I think this is possible as well, the warning has seemed to come on when performing a sharp turn [such as at a roundabout etc], after driving for several minutes. Other 10-20 mile drives the warning has not appeared.

We checked on a relatively flat surface after driving approx 10 miles. The level was definitely on the high side of the stated range in the manual.

Its a 1.5 TSI Skoda Octavia Mk III DSG - I paid a set price for the service, I'm not sure if the invoice stated how much oil was used or whether it was just marked as zero.

Ask the garage to remove a little.

Ok. Sometimes it shows as units and a unit being 0.5 lites.   Your cars oil is VW 508 00 / 509 00, so 0w 20 fs. Unless they go 0w 30 FS or 5w 30 FS.
