It's not about what size spacers, but what offset to use.

Spacers change the offset of a rim.

So if you have rims with an offset of ET51 and use 10mm spacers, that would change the effective offset of those rims to ET41.

If you have rims with an offset of ET54 and used 15mm spacers, that would change the effective offset of those rims to ET39.

Using spacers with an offset of less than 10mm is a bad idea, because you can't get spacers that are hubcentric if they are less than 10mm. Hubcentric spacers centre the rim on the hub, thereby helping to prevent vibration. Avoid spacers that are not hubcentric, ie. don't centre the rim on the hub, as this can lead to wheel vibration.

The offset of standard rims on the Octavia MK2 range from ET47 to ET54.

For the front rims, it's important to keep near to the design offsets or you can get problems with the steering such as bump steer. Using an offset within the standard range will mean that when you turn the steering wheel the front tyres pivot on the centre of the tread. By using offsets outside the design limits, the front tyres will be dragged sidewalls when you turn the steering wheel rather the pivoting on their centre. Power steering might not let you feel this happening, but if you didn't have power steering the steering feel when you turned the steering wheel at low speed might not feel good.

I suggest you keep to offsets between ET42 and ET54, perhaps by using rims that have the offset that you want rather than using spacers.

Here are some 8Jx18 ET44 alloy rims from the VW EOS, perhaps used in combination with 225/40R18 tyres. 225/40R18 fitted to 8J rims won't give much protection from kerbing damage, and the low profile tyres fitted to the relatively wide 8J rims won't give you much comfort.

Morning guys! Sorry for the late reply! So if I fit 15mm and 20mm it should be fine as long as the hubcentric?  I don't want to upset any of the settings of the car so to speak?
