Smoking Diesel Corsa

Featured Replies

OK lets have your thoughts my Dads corsa (DI) is smoking a lot under heavy load (black) and in general seems to produce a definate haze from the exhaust. Its passed its MOT recently, doing 60mpg and not using any oil. The MAF is not that old, injectors cleaned and dealer at a loss

Please dont kill me for putting this on a skoda forum its under duress!!!

:sofahide:

air filter blocked ? EGR valve fault?

Piston ring gone? What milage has it done?

From my experience with older diesels i used to do ther servicing on:

- Dirty/blocked ait filter.

- Dirty oil/Time for an oil change (Don't know why but it made a difference)

- Crap fuel

- Has it warmed up

- Have you been pootling around to build up soot.

Give it a good warm up and blast then see if it still does it. You could try a double dose of millers dieselclean to flush the system though.

Failing that how smokey is it, I mean some cars really do pump it out heavily on full bore. I know 306's did ;) although they are mechanical pumped on the DTurbos.

Regarding piston ring, if this had gone it would be using oil.

I personally found the EGR made old engines more sooty, but no idea on this one. Might be worth disconnecting the EGR pipe and flushing it through to remove the usual sludge and crud that builds up in that pipe.

Check the air intake - a friend's Astra diesel did exactly the same and there was a carrier bag in the intake pipe. On the same token check the filter too, as if it's really crapped up it'll have the same effect.
