Bye Bye RaRo

Featured Replies

I've punted the RaRo after 2yr and 11k miles.

Some big bills were coming up despite it being completely reliable over that 24 months and if I'm honest it was a lot of money to be locked up in a car that I appreciated but didn't really love.

It's been swapped for... a 2016 Suzuki Jimny.
Really.

Dealer made a decent offer for the Raro which involves giving me a wodge of cash back, buyer already lined up.

Jimny will just be for the winter weather and shooting days, cash back will go towards soemthing interesting, probably fast and german but maybe a bit more left field. Wee 4x4 was low mileage and mint condition. Being sold as approved used despite the age. Getting new disks and pads then it'll be swapped on this week. Get some knobblies on it soon.

Jimney's are great little winter cars. They use them here for winter service with a little plough on the front and sand dispenser on the back. Ideal for clearing footpaths and drives.

Lada Niva also popular for the same reason.

Ended up getting Yokohama Geolanders for the Jimny, chonkiest tyres I could get quickly.

I have to say I am surprisngly entertained by the Jimny. It should be awful really, it's a bouncy, noisy lack pretty much all extras. The gearbox whines, the radio is terrible etc etc.

I think it's so diferent it makes it quite fun. It actually got a few complements from the gamekeepers.

It would be truely painful to drive any great distance in (on the ears mostly the seats are quite comfortable) but for short hops I quite like it.

There's something about back to basics vehicles that means if you're a true petrolhead you really love driving them, the smiles per mile factor is really high!

@Aspman I used the Geolander G012 in winter and they were good.

Not that good in muddy conditions though.

The Arial Nomad comes with a choice of tyres, Geolander A/T's or Mud Tyres.

I actually wanted something significantly chunkier for Mud if I could have got it, but just couldn't get anything in time. TBH those yokohamas will probably decompose before they wear out with my mileage right now.
