Extended Warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.
I'm at the 3 year point with my 2019 mk3 Fabia from new so breakdown cover and warranty is up this Friday.
Extending the breakdown cover is a no brainier but not sure if its worth extending the warranty? Mine comes in at £188 all component cover when i looked a few days back.
Has there been any expensive issues on these cars that anyone's aware of that's brewing or happened?
I realise £188 is most likely less than any repair bill i will get for any work that needs doing but is it really likely to break?

Cheers

I can not see what your car is so will assume a 1.0 TSI.     If you have a DSG then a Skoda extended warranty is a no brainer IMO.    If not I would just get servicing done at an independent and put the money saved and a bit more aside for any stuff needing done.    If you have any issues now have them reported while the car is in warranty if anything that the warranty covers.   Get the MOT done in the 4 weeks before the car is 3 years old.   Ps.  Sorry since 3 years old on Friday best get that MOT now if not already done.

Cheers for the reply, its the Fabia 1L TSI 110PS.
Just been MOT'd / serviced, nothing found on their check list. I've got 1 year left on the PCP so either buying it in full this time next year or chopping it in at some point. I guess get the last service / MOT with them next year maybe.
It seems OK at the moment but I've never really trusted the build quality on this version. More of a gut thing than real life experience though.
Its really low millage for its age as done a years less driving due to covid, Its 13,200 after 3 years. Should be around 21K by now for my use.

I've searched back through the forum to see what issues people have been
experiencing with this model, broken door handles and infotainment units stopped working seems to be a thing so far.
With previous S/H dealer brought cars where it came with a
warranty i did extend them. With those it did prove to be worth it as had problems that got sorted. That would of been a 2002 1.8T VW Bora & after that a mk2 2013 Fabia with started to make expensive noises with the timing chain tensioner and the oil pan started leaking! I PX'd it in for this mk3.

I was going to ask why you thought you needed breakdown cover but now I understand but wow it doesn't say a lot when you can't trust 3 year old cars.  Audis you'd want extended cover.  I'd say next year when possibly values are lower look at older more reliable Toyotas or Hondas models.  Personally I'd definitely not be looking at any cars made during the chips shortages and Covid altered assembly workforce from any manufacturer.

Very low mileage isn't always a good thing especially if it includes lots of sort journey - check out the state of charge of your battery, without the engine running, a few hours after it's been parked and if it's low recharge it, just driving it around often isn't enough.  The very hot weather we had was very unkind to car batteries.

If you're getting shot of it next year your main concern ought to just be not damaging any components like wheels, steering, suspension by stuff like crashing up kerbs, and of always that your brakes (tyres) are in good condition for safety.  Then I suppose dents and scratches on the paintwork and thigs like that.

There is a 'known'  'unknown'.

That is the GPF's with the 1.0TSI's.

They have been fitted for long enough without many 'reported issues' on Social Media or Motoring Journals or anyplace.

So cars doing high miles, low miles, short or long journeys, parked up lots or used every day.

But we maybe need to get to 5 years before we know how they are after 5 years.

We need to find out if the GPF needs replacing how much the part is and how much Main Dealers will be charging to do a replacement.

Hopefully they are proven to be rouble free, have a long life and are saving the planet.

EDIT / PS.   My Typo 'Rouble' instead of trouble might not be so very wrong.

Similar to DPF, the GPF will be anywhere from £1,000 to £1,800 inc VAT for an exchange part.

As mentioned by yourself, we need to find out how they will be getting on after 5 years etc.
