Open Boot

Featured Replies

I have an Octy Elegance 2.0 TDI Hatch which has remote locking. I can remotely lock and unlock the car, but when the boot is unlocked it jumps open and must be reclosed maually. The boot has accidentally opened remotely on a number of occasions, presumably when the key got trapped in my pocket. The dealer says that this feature can not be disabled. Does any one have a solution other than carrying the key in a small box?

Keep the key in your hand until your far enough away?

It must be the centre button being pressed then I guess accidentally. You can't even disable the solenoid as that opens the boot via the handle aswell.

Not heard of any other complaints though so maybe the remote is a little sensitive.

This may sound simplistic, but are you sure the rear hatch striker is catching home securely and is not just a partial catch.

I notice on my estate that you have to close the tailgate hard in order to get a positive full catch.

On mine you have to hold the centre button down for quite a long time before it activates the boot catch, and I've never had it 'go off' in my pocket so to speak. I'd have thought you'd have all sorts of problems with stuff locking and unlocking at random if you've got that much stuff in your pockets that could be pressing the button - so it sounds like it might be a bit oversensitive to me.....

Thanks All.

I agree with patrimand that the remote must be over sensitive. It is of course the centre button which does the job and the boot opens if the button is pressed for two seconds! How do I reduce the sensitivity? Sadly if there is too much in my pocket it is not money.

Does it do the same with your spare key?

Thanks Lummox.

Will check with the spare key when my wife can find it in her handbag! (may take some time).

I posted about the same problem about a year ago.

Solution was to make a small soft leather zippered pouch with a thin but very tough plastic insert the same size as the remote control. any pressure on the remote from items in my pocket can never be "sharp" or concentrated enough to press one of the button in---the plastic spreads the load. Of course the buttons must face the plastic to get the protection. I used an old handbag -my wifes.

This has been a total success.

I find I can't even get mine open when its meant to be pressed :D , I must not be pressing it correctly  . I'm a bit cautious about using the Boot Open feature, very easy to leave keys sitting in the boot and close it, especially when carrying something.

I did it before on my cousins Polo, he normally opens the door to open the boot (just habit), after a round of golf I opened the boot with the key, left keys sitting in the boot for him....forgot to take them out....boot closed....oops :o:rofl:

I think with Vag-Com you can set the length of time you have to press the middle button before it unlatches the tailgate. So if you set this to some impossibly long time, you would avoid false triggering.

New one on me that one, never seen an adjustment in guided functions.

Thanks bryand will investigate lengthening delay. Both keys open boot in two sec., and guess what, the manual says that this is what should happen!.

HopeImRight,s pouch sounds much more classy than my plastic box.. Have staarted to make the same but with velcro fastening. Thanks everyone for their suggestions.

you can limit the distance allowed for the fob to work with vagcom or the dealer comp. Not tried it to see if it works though
