Quick brake hose question

Featured Replies

Looking at 312mm parts, read the standard brake lines are only just long enough and Octavia ones fit and are longer? Is this true?

Im familiar with the conversion, done it before. But the hose thing interested me. Previously had brake failure running 312 and crashed. Don't want that again lol

Thanks guys

How was your previous brake failure caused by hose length issues?

It wasn't necessarily, I never said it was caused by that. I have had brake failure, I want to do everything in my power to not have it again that's all. So do you know if they are a bit longer?

Longer is far more likely to cause potential brake failure through rubbing than "just long enough"

I would go with just long enough every time.

Thank you for that reply.

Carried out a 312mm conversion on our vRS just about 2 months ago, and re-used the standard front flexis.  No problem with length at either lock, and haven't experienced any problems whilst driving either.

Doesn't mean everyone will have the same experience - don't know if my lines were OE, aftermarket, or whatever - but I should imagine keeping the standard length is just fine unless you spot a specific issue when doing the swap.

I hadn't realised that the 312mm in the OP was the disc diameter of an intended upgrade, I thought it referred to the hose length.

As Owen has said, use your eyes when doing the conversion, don't put your trust in the experience of others.

No-one bothers fitting longer hoses, it's not necessary, it's a simple conversion and hard to see how you'd mess it up again, particularly since you know what to look out for now!

I didn't mess anything up thankfully. But good advice guys thanks 👍🏻 off to eBay to find some calipers.
