Timing belt and "Thermal Management Module"

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

Whats the interval on a timing belt? My guess is that my car has passed that by quite much.

I got a 1,8 TSI DSG.

Anyways, my mechanic says that recommndations is that a "Thermal Management Module" (google translated) has to be changed with the timing belt and waterpump?

Is that necessary?

Timing belt and waterpump = about 580 euros

With Thermal Management Module = about 1010 euros.

Best regards.

Has the 1.8TSI Octavia 3 got a timing belt?

I was under the impression that it's an EA888 engine which has a timing chain?

Since they both use the EA888 engine that's extremely unlikely 🙃

If this is the ea888 engine then your mechanic needs to be replaced....

They have a chain to start with

The water pump is not a part of the camshaft drive system and has no bearing on it or a service interval

Thermal management is the thermostat body full of valves and electronic solenoids, again this is bolted to the water pump and only needs changing if its leaking.

Definitely sounds like they are having you on.

*this is all on the basis its the ea888 engine. If you upload a photo of your engine we can let you know*

A good example of why everyone with any interest in their car should know their engine code. Makes it easy to look at relevant parts diagrams.

See link in my signature (view on computer, not phone) if you don't know what an engine code is or how to find it.
