Can VCDS codes be used for Obdeleven long coding?

Featured Replies

Just recently purchased Obdeleven Pro to do some adaptions. However, I’m finding it difficult to find many Obd11 long codes  for my car (Octavia mk3 pfl). So was wondering if it’s possible to translate the codes from VCDS to Obd11?
Have never used VCDS so not familiar with it and only just had my Obdeleven a few days.

Thanks

In short, yes.

VCDS and OBDeleven are both just interfaces to the cars modules. Changing the coding or adaption channels with either interface will have the same result.

Biggest thing to start with is understanding how to create a backup of the cars initial configuration. That way you can always see what you've done and how to get back :)

OBD11 is even better than VCDS and its interface is very user friendly. Recently they have taken all the free credits off. It's just crazy.

I prefer VCDS, yes you have to learn about details of the changes, but at least you know what you're doing and VCDS keeps logs of all the changes to coding and adaptations so if you make a mess you can fairly easily revert back.

Yes you can use OBDEleven for long coding.
It does require you to use different screens compared to the VCDS software.
Also the History log is fiddly to use to restore previous settings IMHO but it is possible to revert things back.

Vcds......simply clever😀

I always prefer OBD11. It's easy to use and you can do everything with this. Moreover it has got hundreds of App that you can apply to your cars to activate features which I believe VCDS hasn't got.

VCDS will not have  "apps" but for those of us who lived in a world where things were done manually and not for us then I'm pretty sure all the features you speak of can be activated using it.

What features were you actually referring to?

In OBD11app there are tons of features app available which are already coded (It will also tell you if this feature is for your car or not). You do not need to go to any control module to change the coding to activate those features. Also you can see at a glace what are the potential features your car might have. SOme of the app example are Park Assist Switch Off Speed,Increase Engine Responsiveness, Automatic PDC Activation, Turn Signals Blinks MOde, Taillights aa Brake Lights, Pace-Car indicators "UrbanJoke", Parking Lights on Both Sides. etc.

I would strongly suggest avoiding the one touch apps...

OBDeleven don't tell you what is being changed and they have been known to mess up various settings when the vehicle identification isn't up to scratch. Given the backup functionally and support aren't great, I would suggest manual changes are a better plan.

It can be a great tool in the right hands but equally you can really mess things up through it's 'friendly' UI.

At least with VCDS there is an obvious log of changes made. You can still mess things up but at least it's normally pretty easy to back track 😉

I've been using for FIVE years. never had any problem.

I'm happy for you...

If everyone's experience had been the same we probably wouldn't be having this conversation :D

Can I just clarify something so I understand for myself. I have OBDEleven ProVAG Pack.

We have a VCDS activation feature page on the forum can I mirror these function in OBD11 and will "potentially" work?

Dont know but none of them work as well since 2020 when VAG locked a lot of modules and I cant do 25% on my 21 Kamiq as to what I did on my 2019 Tiguan. Also VCDS wont work on SFD protected cars because they dont want to pay the fees associated with allowing access Im about to sell my OBD Eleven as is not really worth it any more

Yes - It doesn't matter what tool you use as long as you make the correct changes.

Just be aware that some of the channel description/names vary slightly between tools so be careful when searching.

That's not entirely true. VCDS will work on SFD protected cars but doesn't provide the token for unlocking, you'll need to source that yourself: https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/sfd.php

On reading that its a mess whereas OBDEleven has full seamless access to all unlocked modules. Have never had the message come up on any of the cars Ive used it on . Latest is 2 different 21 Kamiq models but the locations of some stuff varies as my Tiguan and the Kamiqs have same stuff but in different places

Have used my OBDELEVEN on a B8 Passat ok Its just a matter of looking for the correct thing as where they are in the modules can vary from model to model
