Clutch Slipping?

Featured Replies

Had my 4x4 Revo'd a couple of months ago, no problem there:D , but over the last week I've noticed the clutch start to slip:thumbdwn: . I know its a reasonable power increase but I've not noticed other people on here complaining about the same thing. I thought that the standard clutch was supposed to be up to the job? If not can anybody recommend what to replace it with, preferably with a lower "bite" point(no further power mods expected, just maybe ARB's) or suggest if it could have any other causes. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with mine after I fitted a dragon digi box to it. It was quite a random thing as well, some times it wouldn't do it for ages, then all of a sudden it would slip like a bar of soap.

it was worst in 5th or 6th at about 1800rpm, foot down and off goes the rev counter.

Can't help re replacement but my clutch slip has gone now the box is off (temporary hiccup) which says to me the standard clutch isn't man enough for the job.

No problems with mine and a Jabba remap - but still under 20,000 miles.

Had a Jabba remap for about a week and my clutch couldn't handle the torque and began slipping big time.

Got a new clutch assembly and now everything is fine

This really comes down to how you drive.....if you like traffic light racing and make the engine slog at low revs in a high gear then you are going to get clutch slip.

My RS is running 300+bhp/300+Nm and all on a standard clutch....no slip.

Diesel with a remap may have some clutch problems though but, if you have a custom map you can have it tuned to have the torque turned down, as it is the torque which causes the problems.

Anyone know what the maximum torque is on the TDi Octys that the gearbox/clutch can handle.

Nothing to do with standing starts or traffic light racing just when planting right foot in 4th from 40/45 when overtaking in no particular hurry. Can be made worse if you try harder but less noticeable in lower gears. As my 4x4 is nowhere near 300bhp unless Revo normal map is a lot better than they claim (seems unlikely) there must be some other problem like an oil leak maybe. What has anyone fitted instead of the standard clutch when this happens? Cars (52 plate) only done 30k so somewhat disappointed as the only the last 2k on remap.

Just noticed the 300bhp one is an RS, is this a different clutch?

same clutch, when the clutch in my 4x4 went i replaced it with a sachs clutch and lightened G60 flywheel :)

i give mine no end of **** and it hasn't slipped since getting it fitted(nearly two years ago i think) and it was played with by jabba over a year ago :)

Thanks for that. What was the damage getting that fitted or did you do it yourself?

forget doing it yourself on a 4x4, exhaust off, prop off, then the transfer box and gearbox are very heavy. get it done by a garage :)

skoda quoted me about £850 but i got the sachs clutch and flywheel for about £450 i think(can't really remember tbh) and fitting was another £100 by a mechanic that charged £25 an hour :)

That'll be popular indoors then - no dear no need for any other expensive mods just goes quicker - oops

lol

clutch's do go though, atleast with yours its slipping. on my car the bearing went which made shifting very difficult and the few miles i had to do in the car probably didn't help with the gearbox failure soon after :(

I noticed the clutch on mine slipped the most between 1800 and 2200 rpm, pretty much where all the torque lurks on the rev range.

It's done it from 30,000 miles onwards, my has done over 95,000 now with the box off and there is no slip whatsoever.

On the motorway in 6th at 65, foot to the floor = monster clutch slip lol.

Its' definitely the torque thats the killer.

PD130 is 310NM standard and mine was chucking out somewhere in the region of 350-360NM.

Question: is the clutch on the new 2litre TDI 140 meatier than the one on the 1.9TDI 130?

we are talking about a 4x4 1.8T here not a 19TDi :)

Is the clutch for

Is the clutch for

Yes had it since new no problem until after Revoing. Not sure why it would glaze unless something got on it to start with. Think I'll take it somewhere tomorrow for a profes. opinion.

Took car to two places first recommended the second as they didn't fancy the job and the second quoted
