dsg 7 dry

Featured Replies

so my 150 tsi karoq goes for 60000kms service next week,

due to power it has a dry dsg 7 box with a mechatronics unit........apparently the oil in the complex mechatronics unit is never changed....seems bit stupid to me.

anyone had any mechatronics issues?

Most of the mechatronics issues were in units built 10 years ago.

Very few problems reported these days

There are suggestions that if you do lot of city driving, and starts to get jerky then a fluid change will help.  But this seems to be over about 90,000 miles (over 150,000km) and might not happen.

Actually hear of lot more problems in wet clutch and Haldex units where fluid changes missed or not done properly

Thanks

In the dry clutch dsg box, the clutch is separate from the gearbox (similar to a normal manual gearbox) so any particles due to clutch wear don't mix with the gearbox oil. As with a manual gearbox there's no requirement to change gearbox oil. In the wet clutch version, the clutch is in the same oil and so needs changing at regular intervals to ensure that any contamination from clutch wear doesnt cause gearbox wear.

The DQ200's have 2 oils, in the box and in the MCU and indeed have no servicing guidelines, schedules or recommendations for oil changes.

No idea who it is that suggests with lots of city driving an oil change would be a good thing.

(There are people that do change the oil, but more likely to get that wrong than doing a good preventative measure.)

@Alanphe

They have Mechatronic Control Units be them wet or dry clutch.

But as @NottsIanposted, the wet clutch DSG have the oil shared oil in the DSG.

@AlanpheJust to be certain.

Is your Karoq is a 1.5 TSI DSG and Front Wheel Drive only, & not a 1.5 TSI DSG with AWD?

I just ask because there are those with DQ381's that have been told they are Dry Clutch DSG's.

Mine is a dq200 dry box… god knows why vw have some dry and some wet…

I am no god, but i know.

DQ200 Twin Dry Clutch DSG's are perfectly adequate for FWD 1.0,1.2,1.4,1.5,1.8 TSI's up to 192 ps or 1.4 or 1.6 TDI's.

AWD or 2.0 TSI's or TDI's get Wet Clutch DSG's.  and now Hybrids might.

?

So since you are certain it is a DQ200 DSG @Alanphe yours is a Front Wheel Drive only car,

not an Edition or one with Haldex?

Sorry for high jacking the thread @Alanphe

@roottootI have front wheel drive 1.5 TSI DSG which is Edition spec, does it mean I have a different gearbox, not a DQ200? If it it DQ200 - you said it came with 1.8 TSi engine, does it mean it can take more HP and torque than 1.5 provides? I was thinking on chipping/tuning the engine a little, I won't be flooring from every traffic light but it is good to have a little more power under your right foot. The car drives fine as it is, I have not decided yet if I will do it as the car still under Skoda warranty but would be good to know for a future if the gearbox can take more. I think i was promised 180bhp and 340Nm torque. Thanks in advance.

A DQ200 if a Front Wheel drive.

DQ200.s in a Skoda 1.4 TSI or a 1.8 TSI had DQ200's. these had 180 ps, but 250 Nm max which is the limit.

VW Polo 1.8 TSI DSG 2014 on had 192 ps but just 250 Nm,  the Manual has 320 Nm but the same engine and different mapping.

People remap 1.4 TSI's to over 200 bhp and 300 plus Nm.

 Some to 320 + Nm.

With 340 Nm i would want Uprated Clutch Pack and a DSG Software upgrade / Remap.    I had that with a Mk2 Fabia 1.4 TSI Twincharger with a stage 2 remap and other bits and pieces.

EDIT.

Talk to http://ecotune-scotland.co.uk

Not to which one of my questions? I do NOT have a DQ200? Sorry.

The DQ200 is designed for applications up to 250Nm torque. That's probably a conservative limit but 340Nm sounds a bit much to ask of it !

edit : roottoot beat me to it

update

@Vlady  Sorry. you have a Dq200.

?

Who offered to remap and give up to 340 Nm with a 1.5 TSI running on 98 octane petrol?    The UK Super Unleaded  bring 97 or 99 octane minimum.

This is what I have read somewhere as well - 250Nm max, a bit strange I would say, I think there should be a little of back up.

340Nm may be a lot but if you don't use it for 0-61mph every time but for normal driving it shouldn't theoretically damage the gearbox.

I was thinking to create a new thread to ask this question but here I am high jacking someone else's thread, sorry about that.

There is a little back up.

But that is at your own risk.   As i posted, people run 320 Nm +,  but then others have expensive failures.

Nice Winter  spec E5 99 ron Min being delivered to Scottish filling stations from next week.

Some might be 100 Ron / 100 +.  Luck of the draw.   Tesco Momentum 99. Lovely stuff.

There is a guy in Glasgow, he has dyno road and it is his business to tune the cars. it is not 340, it is actually 335Nm, not a big difference.

I also contacted DTUK and they said that this gearbox can take much more than 250Nm, they sold so many boxes etc to VAG owners and no one complained or ever came back with damaged gearbox.

Talk to Eco-Tune.  Then see what they say and your guy, and if you want to travel i can get you proper power, but you will need new clutches.

DTUK.   Big pinches of salt.   But maybe they will give you a warranty. Not.

Good idea to talk to Ecotune, will do that.

New clutches? That will be one hell of a bill! :)

No, I need a bit more (not proper power) and trying to find it I can have it, well if the car can take it. I remember I tuned VW Passat, it was so much better than stock, 2.0TDi DSG it was.

Looking forward to hearing from those with 1.5 TSI ACT's with a DSG and remap.

Plenty threads already.
