Fabia 1.0mpi to 1.4mpi keep the same engine block

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Fabia 1.0mpi 50hp mix the fluids and I have to open the engine. I am thinking to use 1.4mpi 68hp insides that i have + ECU and to put them in the 1.0 engine block. The idea is to be still leagal with the same engine number.
Need to use from 1.4 the crankshaft, pistons, cylinders, rods, head...
Someone did this before? What do you think?
Thank you!

Pics- the different construction of the crankshafts of 1.0 and 1.4.

That won't work.

It doesn't matter, you can't put a five main bearing crank into a three main bearing block.

It won't work, end of story.

Think again.

I don't know much about crankshafts, which image has five main bearings?

If the pictures are correct then it isn't actually a 5 bearing crank but a stiffened 3 bearing one.

I have no idea about the bore spacing, the crank throw, rod interference etc and could not deduce that from a photo.

You wont need much a flywheel with that abortion!

The lower crank from the 1.4 has five mains plus four big ends, the upper crank from the 1.0 has three mains plus four big ends.

It means we don't need to know anything else because the block castings are completely different.

Both are 3 main bearing cranks.

Blimey, so they are!

ETKA shows different blocks between the 1.0 & 1.4. I presume one of the differences might be different size bores in the block for the wet liners but I'm not sure.

Yeah, I took ETKA for some hours to see there are a lot different parts used in these two Skoda base engines. Actualy almost all of them. But as it looks to me there is a chance with minor alteration or none to do it. It's like putting 120L parts in 105L engine block- that we did a lot of times.
In the worse case scenario i will fit the whole 1.4engine + ECU. I guess the wire loom will be the same- still will be chacked that.

These engine start production in 1000MB, then 100S, 105/120/Rapid. Have renovation with improved head and some parts in Favorit, Felicia, than again an improve in Fabia/Octavia. They all have 3 main crank bearings. In Fabia there is the best consctruction. Some colleagues in Czechia even do 1.4 with turbo witch holds pretty much ok on boost. 120++ hp...

One of the best improvements they did for the Fabia was giving the engine hydraulic valve lifters. Nice not having to fiddle with tappet adjustment all the time.
