Retrofitting Paddle shifters to Skoda Superb II

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Getting a little desperate now.  I have been scouring the forum for advice/instructions on how to retrofit paddle shifters to a Skoda Superb II.  Unfortunately, I have hit a bit of a brick wall.

Parts I have:

Steering Wheel: 5E0419091AF

Buttons: 5E0 919 719 G

Airbag: 6V0 880 201 P IZY

Wiring loom: 3V0 971 584 A

See attached pictures.  When I fit these, the horn continually sounds and the multi function buttons do not work.  I have a feeling I may have compatibility issues between the parts.  Can you help/advice?  I have spent a bit of money now and feel committed to it but do not want to waste any more.

Many thanks in advance,

That wheel is for a mk3 Octavia, which is not compatible.

From my limited knowledge on the subject, you need to find a multifunction wheel from a vehicle on the same architecture/platform.

MQB parts from the mk3 Octavia aren't compatible with the PQ46 platform of the MK2 Superb.

I have seen others fit the wheel with paddles from the MK2 Octavia.

Hi Softscoop!

Many thanks for responding so quickly.  From what I have read on the forum it is not so much the steering wheel incompatibility but the buttons. I have replaced the original buttons with the ones recommended in this thread so they should work:

I am wondering if the problem is the airbag or the wiring loom?

Cheers again!

Hi all!

I have completed the retrofit after a few setbacks.  All working with extra functions that were not on the original wheel.

Parts used:

Steering Wheel: 5E0419091AF CWE Multifunction Steering Wheel for Skoda Octavia 3 with DSG Shift Paddles

Buttons: 5E0 919 719 G DSG Steering Wheel Buttons - Switches for Skoda Superb 2 Facelift

Airbag: 3T0880201G Driver's Airbag Skoda Superb 2 - Facelift

The key is ensuring you get the airbag with the wiring loom attached as the problem I had was trying to match wiring looms to airbags whereby I went through many iterations! To be honest, I fell very lucky with the airbag from E-Bay as it had the wiring loom attached and to be honest, this was going to be my final attempt and was about to give up.  I tried one last final time without much hope and couldn't believe it when it worked!

All I had to do then was use VCDS to code for a wheel with triptronic buttons and all worked perfectly!  Must admit, it feels very nice to have the extra button functionality plus paddle shifters.

I have a lot of spare parts from wheels, airbags and airbag wiring looms, so pm me if you may be interested.

Very interested in doing this, but I'm assuming your car is a facelift? I've heard it's impossible on a pre-facelift like mine?

Hi there aero-hot.

Nope, my Superb is a pre-facelift so definitely not impossible!  It did take me some iterations to work out the best combinations but the above parts should work.  Very much enjoying the experience - not only do I have the paddle shifters, but also voice control and remote switching of tracks and between HDD to SD card too.

More than happy to guide you through it if needed.

Thank you, that would be good, I'll try and track down the parts!

Good luck!  Just a point of note - the airbag will need to have the wiring loom attached - I tried many different wiring looms and airbags before I found the right one (at some expense!) and I wouldn't want you to go through the same!

Hello everyone,

I have replaced all components with the specified types, but VCDS does not offer the option for long coding.
Is it also necessary to replace the airbag control module in this case?
I would really appreciate your help, as I’ve been trying to solve this issue for over six months now.
