Help with 2022 kamiq 1.0 SE

Featured Replies

Hi I’m struggling with a couple of the ‘features’ of the kamiq.

firstly Lane Assist.  It is downright dangerous.  I will be driving down the centre of a wide lane. And all of a sudden the car will think a crack or line of tarmac is a lane and jerk me into oncoming traffic.  I literally have to fight the steering wheel.  I do try to turn it off every journey, but is this the same on all kamiq or should I take it in to the dealer?

secondly why do none of my settings ever save?  I like to have the digital speed display up on the cockpit but every time I get in it goes back to navigation.  Also having tons of connection issues with my iPhone even with the lead plugged in.  The infotainment freezes a lot too.

Is it not possible to set up how you want it to be and it stay that way?

There have been quite a few threads discussing Lane Assist and I've stated my dislike of the 'feature' at length several times. The irony is that it is one of the items required to achieve an NCAP rating. It's fair to say that there are both opponents and proponents who have posted in the threads but it's a moot point anway, we are stuck with it. For my part I made my feelings clear directly to NCAP when I completed their online form.

What exacerbated the danger for me was that the salesman who did the handover made no mention of Lane Assist whatsoever and it almost threw me into a ditch as I drove home in my new car from the dealers.

I've also had problems with the infotainment system which just randomly changes the time, the radio channel, freezes occasionally and the drivers seat back which needs winding back towards upright every other time I use the car.

Fortunately, I make very little use of the car (6,000 miles & 3 years old in December). I regretted exchanging my last Yeti almost from day 1.

I certainly never have to “fight the steering wheel”

I've never done so either. I took a much firmer hold of the steering wheel and straightened up again that is all.

I was driving along a long straight and level moorland road with no markings where the metalled surface dropped straight onto the grass which then sloped down into a ditch. I was totally unaware of Lane Assist and when the car suddenly pulled to the nearside I thought I'd got a nearside flat. Scoff if you will.

When you start the car you’ll soon get used to the routine of pressing the steering wheel button then the silver rotary control to turn off lane assist. Two button presses then it’s done.

Re the infotainment, yes I’ve had a couple of glitches with it, but nothing major. Having the lead plugged in to the iPhone makes no difference to connectivity one way or the other.

I’ve had the car for 3 months now and the minor irritations are just that and nothing more. I love it.

Here to be exact but without any other traffic on the road.

It won’t let you go into the ditch the system will turn you back as it will notice the verge

I have the SE L which, I believe, has a different Infotainment system the SE?.  I do have the occasional issue with it dropping connection to the phone but I just reset it by holding down the power button and, after it resets, its fine.  I do agree the Lane keeping assist is a nuisance, but I wouldn't ever describe it as "dangerous".  It gives a gentle nudge back to the centre of the lane which is easily overpowered.  I always turn it off when I go above 40 so its not a real issue.  I have become used to turning it off.  Overall I love the Kamiq its a very well put together and comfortable car to drive in my opinion.

Presumably that is when you think that at some time during your journey you'll be doing so, you turn it off before setting off? So what you're saying is that when you anticipate reaching the speed at which it activates, you disable it in advance.

I generally turn it off before setting out on a journey but forget to do so on my return. I can't get out of my habit of getting in the car, starting the engine and setting off. I know it's easily overpowered, I didn't crash although I was a matter of a few inches away from doing so.

There was absolutely no reason for the car having pulled me to the nearside in the first place. Anyway I see no point in hammering the point any further.

I left the lane assist active on my new Kamiq....simply to see what happens.

After 12 months and a few thousand miles I find it perfectly acceptable.
It is simply a gentle twitch on the wheel. Most times there is a reason and very occasionally there is no reason............(mostly when I don't signal a lane change).

My driving experience is long and varied and treat it as another welcome safety feature added to todays road vehicles.

I switched it off permanenty in our Karoq, not because I had any issue with its action, but because in my car I was continually being nagged by a synthesised voice to keep in the middle of the lane on single carriageway bendy roads. Easy to avoid on wider A roads, but a real pain on some of the narrower roads our way.

Fortunately, mine doesn't talk to me I just get the gentle wheel twitch.

If it did I would turn off the voice or even the lane assist if I couldn't silence it!

As regards lane assist, I've had my Kamiq now for over two years and I find that either I've adjusted my driving to it or it has adjusted its actions to my driving.  Whichever it is, we are getting on much better together.

However, I do find that at this time of the year as the clocks change and the sun is lower, it can mistake shadows from the nearside verge as the edge of the road and react to these

If lane assist was only activated by white lines, I would agree that it is safe to use. Unfortunately I find that it is activated by anything resembling a line, straight or curved and it's unreliable when it's wet. At the least, it should be able to be moderated by the driver if not switched off by default.

I cannot see what the big deal is with lane assist if I’m honest.  On the rare occasion I forget to turn it off it’s a very mild annoyance at worst, and as soon as it activates I am reminded to turn it off anyway, so zero dramas anyway🤷🏻‍♂️

I would imagine I'd get used to lane assist eventually but I had a bit of a surprise / fight with it when I test drove the Kamiq that for now has put me off it, although I may re-think as everything seems to have it now.

When I test drive a car in our area I ask to incorporate a back road that formed part of my commute as it has a pretty bumpy surface(it was awful in Mrs BJ's previous Punto ) - the reality is you drive in the middle of the road and only venture left to the rougher surface when another vehicle was approaching - in the Kamiq this caused the lane assist to have a hissy fit trying to "persuade" me back to the middle of the road potentially into the path of the oncoming car.

It probably felt worse as I didn't realise the car even had lane assist. Also probably less of an issue now as I no longer have a commute - retired!

Just turn lane assist off. It’s just two button presses every time you start the car.

I have never turned mine off you get used to it you don’t have to fight with it just turn like you would if a car was coming towards you it turns off. If you are going in a straight line and it reads a white or tar line hold in opposite direction it turns off a second or just indicate as that turns it off as well I like it on motorways as it reminds you to indicate

Agreed^^, I do not see what the big issue is with lane assist.  Even if you forget to switch it off it’s a minor annoyance at worst……yet there are umpteen threads about it, Jesus😂😂
