Oily intake manifold

Featured Replies

Fabia 1.4 16V aub engine, 250k kilometers on the clock.

It was on my vacation trip that the epc and check engine lights came on and the engine went in safe mode.

I plugged the vcds and it gave me "17953 - Throttle valve controller malfunction".

I turned the ignition off and restarted the engine and the problem had gone until the few next minutes were it came again.

Long story short, I took off the throttle body and it was dirty as hell. Oil with carbon deposits from the egr were everywhere. Oil, very much oil. I traced the source and it was the crankcase ventilation line that goes through the air filter box and goes in the intake. I know some quantity of oil passes the vent chamber but in my case there is huge amount of oil. I had cleaned the throttle body some 30k kilometers ago so, I think it's too early to be in such a condition. Any suggestions on what to check?

PS. After the cleaning, the engine runs without any problems.

At that mileage the engine will be breathing heavily, not much to be done about it other than to clean out the breather and inlet systems properly.

Sep, I don't understand what you mean by breathing heavily. If you mean that it's near it's end of life, I think the engine has plenty of juice left. What makes the oil to go up the breathing pipe into the intake?

Crankcase pressure, which increases as an engine ages due to piston ring blowby.

I will perform a compression test, then for starting. Do we know the pressure limits for this type of engine?

It's more a way of comparing the cylinders, all four should read similar values.

Thanks. I will perform the test when I will have some time. Any special needs than the usual procedure?

Oil temp at least 30c

remove LT connector from coil pack

10~15 Bar New

7 Bar lower limit

3 Bar Max Diff between cylinders
