What's this loose wire in my 2018 Fabia?

Featured Replies

HI everyone, I posted this in the Skoda discord and got a tip to post it here so here goes:

My headlights stopped working a few days ago and after opening up the engine compartment I saw this loose wire. When I turn the ignition off I also get a clicking sound from the module it's supposed to connect to which leads me to this this is something electrical and could be connected to my headlight problem. I haven't been able to re-attach it and I thought I'd ask here before taking it to the shop. I also included a pic with the part number.  Thanks in advance my friends!

Part number is of the engine mounting bracket, the wire is an earth termination, your photos do not show what module if any it is connected to.

A missing earth is never a good thing, as a temporary measure you could strip some insulation and clamp the exposed conductor under the remains of the ring terminal.

There is probably significant vibration at that point, so ensure there is sufficient slack in remaining wire.

Personally I would crimp a new ring terminal on to the wire, if the existing wire does not have sufficient slack to allow for vibration I would extend that wire (if it is not easy to replace completely).

Obviously take whatever precautions are necessary, disconnecting the battery is a good idea and WILL NOT cause any problems, just make sure the power windows are fully closed and you will need to reset the time of day clock.  Check your 'Owner's Manual' for full advice and instructions.  Sample ONLY here. -
