Removing corrosion from wheel centre caps

Recommended Posts

I'm very happy with an alloy wheel refurbishment on my Trinities (Superb Estate Mark II 1.8 Elegance).

The garage didn't replace the centre caps because they said the corrosion on the caps might crack the new lacquer. But I don't want to be spending nearly £40 on new caps. I'm not so precious about the wheels looking stunning (I'm just delighted the refurb means they're not leaking air anymore).

I can break off the cap corrosion with my nail but I wondered if there's a better way that might result in a smoother (lacquer protecting) finish? Caps otherwise seem absolutely fine.

Any thoughts, tips great appreciated.
