2018 superb S spec screen upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi guys, new here hope that I can gain some information as never owned a Skoda before and don’t fancy installing anything aftermarket..

2018 Skoda superb

I currently have the small screen and basically just DAB, Bluetooth, phone and car info. No sat nav. I am wondering if I can upgrade to bigger screen and if anything needs changing to gain access to nav/Apple car play.

I have read previous
questions here but haven’t found one with the same as mine.

appreciate everyone’s time and information.

That looks like the most basic system (swing?) with the head unit in the dash. Can you confirm you don't have a unit in the glovebox? If you don't then it will probably be a better route to go aftermarket if you want carplay etc. If you have a unit in the glovebox then you should have a better route. Give @pab567 a shout. He is the guru with this stuff.

The answer is YES, it's just the question of your "must have" features and budget.

@MarkyG82 thank you! Glove box is empty. Just the head unit/screen.
wondering if I go aftermarket I’d be able to keep steering wheel buttons working even though nothing in glove box to wire up to.

@pab567 cheers, ideally apple car play but even original sat nav big screen will be perfect. And if I was to go original, which would I need to install so that I can rough price. even though nothing in glove box is that even an option?
appreciate everyone’s time!

Anything is possible. Depends how much you want to spend and how much you are willing/able to pull the car apart. If OEM you'll need to get the cables to the glovebox so if all is there you'll need to split them and get the glovebox out to route it correctly. If you don't have all the right cables then you'll need to get those and do the routing.

Most aftermarket systems should be able to make use of the buttons. If an android system then you should be able to custom code them.

If you are the type of person to leave your phone screen as it comes then I'd say it's worth talking to a local car audio place as well as pab567 to get a better idea of what's involved.

Actually looking at that pic it looks like you might not have the hole for a unit. A new part there would be needed too. Possibly not expensive but you are in the realms of pulling the car apart rather than unplugging bits.

Indeed, you need new glove box, glove box unit, display unit, USB, extension cables set and GPS antenna (assuming you get unit with OEM navigation).

Ok Pab would that have like a separate power source or connection from the BCM?  sorry if that's a silly question I'm not mechanically or electrically minded.  How much does it all cost Pab?

Oem is always the better way to go, much nicer than the aftermarket options.

albeit a bit more expensive but can’t beat it.

Thank you everyone for your input! @pab567  very helpful! Now I know that it’s basically an empty shell and will need everything inc glove box, it just sounds too much of a job for someone like me to do. Where as I wouldn’t have issues installing aftermarket that’s not something I wish to do I’d rather keep the small screen.
if I can find someone/somewhere who would supply and fit original for me locally then that’s the route I will take (I know it won’t be cheap, but will defiantly be worth it as it’s my office/taxi).
Ps- appreciate it if anyone knows anywhere that supply and fit OEM in East Sussex area!

thanks a lot once again!

Well, all you need to replace it with OEM is torx T20 screwdriver and removal keys, the rest is Plug&Play. I have a manual prepared for Fabia, in case of your car it will work the same way (just screw locations might be different).

Is the screen resolution better on the touch screen display (3V0919606D) compared the older button version (3V0919606)?
