Garage costs

The main agent I go to wants £600 for a water pump & cam belt change for my Superb, although 4 years old has only done 23K miles! Is this reasonable??

Hi, welcome to the forum. Is yours a TDI? - Water pump replacement is not required if engine is TSI, as the pump is not affected by cambelt replacement.

NB. cambelt replacement is not required until 5 years at earliest (according to Skoda) I had mine replaced at 6 years - old belt & tensioner were still almost 'as new' when I inspected them carefully.

Expect around £450-£500 for cambelt change only.

Sounds reasonable. Belt, pump, tensioner, plus full service cost me £865 a couple of years ago at an independent.

Thanks for that; with only 23k on the clock it's almost a new car!

I agree, my Octavia has only 25K on it at 7 years! Is yours a TDI?

Question, if I took my car to Skoda dealer, do they just change water pump and belt? Or is the tensioner + anything else (idlers?) changed at the same time for the same fixed price?

I’ve never bothered to get belts changed in the past on previous vehicles but I do need to get mine done at some point

I believe the kit includes a new tensioner / idler - and they should be replaced, but make sure you ask if they will be replaced. Also consider the auxiliary belt.

Hey there, as dealer prices go, thats fairly reasonable.

Independents are generally around the £500 mark.

Personally i do them for £420.

This is if you are talking about the 1.6 or 2.0 TDI engine.

If its a petrol, the 2.0 tsi has a chain, the 1.0/1.2/1.4/1.5 tsi  are belt driven but do not require a water pump at the same time.
