1.9 TDI PD DSG engine sounds rough when vehicle moving

Featured Replies

Hi. Perhaps someone will recognise this problem. My 2009 1.9 TDI PD DSG (92K miles) has been really reliable but recently the engine has been sounding increasingly rough when the car is in motion. Up to about 30 miles an hour the engine sounds fine but then from 30 up to about 50 it sounds quite rough. From 55 upwards the harsh sound reduces but is still there. If I rev the engine with the car in neutral I don't hear any harsh vibration. The problem only occurs when the car is moving.

Vibration from near the front passenger side could be DMF (dual mass flywheel). I have not experienced it on a DSG but a manual 1.9. Or perhaps a wheel bearing if increases with speed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm also not an expert so any help is appreciated.

I took the car to a specialist VAG garage today and apparently the problem is due to a mechanical fault of some sort with the DSG gearbox. It can be repaired for a large fee.

Update. The DSG had to be rebuilt, as far as I can make out, at great expense (most of it labour charges) , but now the car runs beautifully.
