Glove Box Soft Close

Featured Replies

Hi, just a minor issue. I had a front and rear dashcam hardwired by a technician some time ago. After he finished I noticed that the soft close on the glovebox was no longer working. (the technician denied all responsibility). I had reason to drop the glovebox today to access the fusebox and I couldn't see anything obvious that needed putting back in place to make the soft close work. Has anyone any knowledge on this?

Thanks

If he dropped the glovebox door, I suspect that the cogwheel that operates a rack and pinion in the RH arm has dropped out.

It happened to me last week when I replaced the pollen filter.

Drop the lid by pressing - very firmly - on the arm at each side.  Check that the RH arm isn't floating freely minus the cog.

Or the arm hasn't been refitted into the slot at all.

ps - my fingers weren't strong enough to reach and press both RH and LH arms at the same time so I used a screwdriver in each hand to pop the struts.

Have a good feela round the corners of the footwell, up around where the carpet tucks behind the centre console etc, you will probably find the plastic gear wheel that the technician did not displace 😆

Thanks for your replies. The cog wheel is missing and I haven't been able to find it, I've ordered a new arm through eBay. It looks identical to original but much cheaper than Skoda sourced. £9.14 at the moment from China so not much lost even if doesn't fit.

New part arrived from China. Looks identical to OEM. Fitted this morning, now all is well.
