Keyless entry (again!)

Featured Replies

I see that the increase in the theft of cars with keyless technology is making the news again. I have ordered a new Octavia due for delivery in June/July, does anyone know if I can request for it not to be fitted with Kessy?

Failing that how secure are the MK4 Octavias? Is it easy to disable Kessy and press a button on the key instead?

The new keys have a motion sensor, and shut down after a few minutes, but you need to put them on a shelf etc, not leave them in your pocket where they return to life every time you move.

Kesey seems to be standard now, but in some ways was a solution to a non problem that created new problems.

The latest remote fobs have a sleep mode where they stop transmitting if not moved for about 5 mins.

You can disable keyless entry temporarily by pressing the lock button on the remote then pressing the KESSY locking indent on the door handle,so you need to use the remote to unlock the car, but you would need to do this every time.

Best practice is to buy a Faraday pouch , which are not much money, and keep the keys in it when not using.

You can also disable Kessy temporarily, or (i think i saw this option) completely. No need for any pouch or removing kessy from the car.

Kessy can be temporarily AND permanently disabled.

From the manual...

Thanks for all the replies guys.

My 2018 Karoq (7000 miles) is currently in the dealershio with a keyless entry system fault. They are now saying they might have to install a new drivers door lock and the current quote for all the work is for £600+ which they are saying I have to pay. I know the car is 5 years old now so out of warrantly but its only done 7000 miles, surely that cant be right? It's not like wearing your tyres out  - this is just a fault that has suddenly appeared. Any advice anyone? TIA.

well, the good news is that my lock was replaced under warranty.

still havent found if my octavia has kessy option to open close the door without pressing the remote

Have you followed the process in the manual (posted by @DropBear above), you should be able to determine if it works i.e. deactivates, then reactivates.
