Induction Note on vRS

Featured Replies

Have just done first 4,000 miles in our vRS, so now happy to open her up:D . However I am dissapointed with the lack of induction noise! Before buying the vRS I test drove loads of cars including the mkV Golf GTI (Same engine) & there was a lovely induction noise & this is what I am after.

Does any one know if this is because the filter housing/filter or any other induction componants are different & if so can they be swapped over?

I know I could go for an after market kit, (K&N Piper etc) but I like to keep the car looking as standard as possible (it's such a good Q car already)!

Having talked to a guy at Jabba I don't think a new panel filter would help either. I was going to ask our local VW parts dept, but they always get panicky if you can't quote a chasis number! Caused havoc a few weeks back asking for a can of VW orange paint when it wasn't for a beetle/camper (the que behind me was getting very restless) & there was nothing on the NEW computer system!!

Any help from you techies or modders would be appreciated!

Thanks again:thumbup:

The engines and airboxes are the same on the GTi and the vRS.

There is an induction kit out there, Neuspeed iirc.

This may or may not be the kind of noise you are looking for but I fitted a Forge FMFSITA BOV over the weekend and it sounds awesome

Edit: Also fitted a K&N panel filter (33-2888) which has helped on the 'noise' front

It's an adjustable Blow Off Valve or Dump Valve, give a nice 'phutsssshhh' sound. Click on link in above post to see what it looks like, nice bit of engineering and works a treat

Oooohhhh I like, I wan't.......... I'd better finish the decorating first!

Iirc the Golf V GTI has a "special" tube at the left of the enginebay wich feeds induction noise from the manifold into the driver compartment. Crosscheck any pictures of an Golf GTI vs an Octy and youll se it.

I'd just fit a decent spec pannel filter (K&N, Green, JR), that should make a difference to the sound. Should be able to hear all the extra air being sucked in and keep things looking nice and standard.

Just out of intrest - how loud is that DV? Wouldn't mind a bit of a psssst, but dont want to sound like a compete ****. I have a forge 007p on my 20vt - that isnt wooosshy but does give a nice sound when 'pressing on'.

edit - why is C h A v starred - its not an offensive work, its a recognised social group?

to hear the dv(forge 007P) that bit more the use of an ABD LAN pipe makes an incredible difference on the 20VT Mk1, if that helps - nice throaty sound to the induction too, god only knows what it will sound like when i get the Miltek fitted :D

if that helps?

Ok, So this is where I show my age & ignorance, but what is a ABD LAN pipe??? My knowledge of modding modern cars is none existant! It all sounds like witchcraft! Last time I modded an engine, I used terms like porting & gas flowing; fast cams with vernier guages, twin down draughts, 4 into 2 into 1, lightened & ballanced & NGK silicone leads!:o

Ah the memories would come flooding back if they stoped the medication:rofl:

Were you at the Sheffield meet last week, if so, sorry i missed you! are you going to the Fox?

Similar, but on a 2.0l Capri & 1.6 Orion 1600E about 16 years ago!

Have another Orion 1600E in my garage at the moment. Have restored the bodywork, alloys, suspension & brakes; now shall I go for the Piper or Kent cam, modified air box with K&N filter, high capacity fuel pump, sports manifold, hand made 2 & 1/2 inch free flow SS exhaust & ohh if I could only get them, NGK plug leads! Drool, slobber, mumble.

Sorry, the medication has just brought me back again:rofl:

The term "Carb" or even "Twin Carbs" have also gone in the modern world of modding.......

Also when I first got in to cars 15 years ago my Dad was always going on about the need for a performance/sport coil - iceing on the cake if you had NGK plug leads etc.......... He even brought me a sport coil and installed it on my 1.0l Polo
