Does my car have a brake wear indicator?

Featured Replies

I have a Superb 16MY DSG. Just wondering if my car has brake wear indicator because I haven't replaced the brakes since I got the car (2+ years) and whilst everything seems fine (braking is good, no juddering) visually looks like I have 3/4mm left, I am now curious.

Is there a value I can check (if I have it) how much the sensor is picking up from VCDS / OBD11?

Should be able to see it (or not if not fitted) via BCM measuring blocks I think, as it wires into that.

On my 16MY L&K 280 tsi there are sensors, but I think they are just limit sensors - they don't tell you how much pad is left, they just activate when you reach the wear limit which is 2mm. Presumably by "3/4mm" you mean three to four millimeters, not threequarters of a millimetre! In which case you have a little way to go yet. I seem to recall they are only on one front and one rear brake, can't remember which side.

If there are brake wear indicators there're only on front brakes. Indeed, I fear that not all Superb Mk3 are fitted with.

But, for front brakes "the wear limit is reached at a pad thickness of 7 mm, including backing plate (2 mm without backing plate).

For rear brakes "the wear limit is reached at a pad thickness of 7.6 mm, including backing plate (2 mm without backing plate)."

Just something to add - normally the discs develop a lip and this cuts into the sensor before the 2mm pad thickness is reached :D very common on lots of makes of car!
