What nm torque can a standard clutch handle ?

Featured Replies

I have a fabia vrs se and it has an upgraded turbo (1752 hybrid)and all the other changes needed to keep the map from blowing the engine ( 150 head bolts hard pipe upgraded front mount etc). It’s currently at 180 bhp with 456nm of torque I recently got a standard sachs dual mass clutch at the recommendation of my mechanic they said a standard clutch could handle the power but I’m not sure if it was the best choice. What would be a good recommended clutch for the power of the car as when the cars pushed the clutch slips slightly especially  accelerating at lower revs in high gears 😬any helps appreciated I’m not the most knowledgeable person with cars but I’m  learning as I go

Don't drive the car like that, use the gearbox and rev it through some more or you'll eat the clutch and break the gearbox!

Normally I would work my way through the gears up to high revs in each gear it would just be the odd time on motorway if I’m sitting at 70 in 6th and need to accelerate without dropping a gear the clutch just doesn’t feel right.

You really need a torque limited remap, 456 NM is too much for the standard unit, either start dropping to fifth when you hoof it, remap it or fit a stronger clutch.

I thought there might be a typo, 180 bhp with 456nm (336 ft lb in old money.(?)

Diesels don't rev remember, think of a big rig articulated lorry, tractor unit usually only about 350 bhp, just imagine the torque figure, that's with a turbo the size of a dustbin lid!

Thanks, even I (ought to) know this sort of stuff (I'm reminded when I watch the burly truck drivers with their big rigs) I didn't think the  multiplier out fully, well maths (with a 's') and thinking are not my strong points.
