Skoda octavia scout 2012 - exhaust smell in car

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Just purchased a 2012 octavia scout and have just noticed that I have a smell of exhaust fumes in the car when driving. What could this be and is it easily fixable.

Thabks in advance

Exhaust gasket, or something like that.

Best just get it to a garage to get it in the air to check pipework.

Just had a garage take a look at it and they reckon before I throw money at it, it could be just as simple as giving it a decent run as it could be where it has been sat for a while

'They would say that wouldn't they!'.   Because they are not interested.

Did they have it on a ramp?

30 minutes of a drive is long enough, then get them to find out what is wrong with the car.

Even pull into a tyre and exhaust centre and ask them to have a look.  Then make your excuses and leave.

I trust the guy in there been a family friend for a long time. It has been sat for the last 3 months. See what happens tomoz and go from there.

I many miles has it done since you got it?

If the diesel in the tank has been there for a few months then get more in because that will be summer formulation and depending where you are you want Winter Diesel in with anti waxing.

Not that that makes a difference smell wise.  Well it does if the diesel waxes and the car does not start.

Nobody here has posted about that but maybe you need to be in North Scotland and it getting to-15*oC and have Summer Diesel in the tank.

I have already done a tank of fuel of fuel however I haven't given it a decent run as its just been used to get to work and back which is less then 8miles round trip so hopefully a decent run at high revs will clear what ever cobwebs she still has

The most obvious source of smell could be DPF, just you don't normally smell it inside the car.

That usually leaves the fans spinning after you turn off the engine, so easy to notice.

Are you sure it's from your car? I smelled something similar the other day but realised it was from the traffic around me, especially at this time of year with the freezing weather and engines being cold and there being not much wind.

As soon as I was clear of traffic the smell went.

Yeh its definitely from my car. As I have had no traffic around and the smell is still there

CO poisoning is no joke, get it fixed pronto.
