water pump shroud issue

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 2019 Kodiaq with under 24,000 miles. It is overheating when driving above 45 mph. The garage are asking for £148 initial diagnosis - then a further excess of £400 to clarify that it is a water pump shroud issue - which is very common apparently - all whilst I am being charged £22 per day car hire charge! Anyone had any luck with recompense? I have never had a vehicle so young and so faulty - already had to have a new clutch! I am back off to Ford me thinks!!

This should really have been posted into the correct model specific section of this site to get the best visibility and so responses.

I am new - thanks for advice

Done a report to move the post, don't worry OP, this is not school report.

I am shocked they want money to diagnose etc (though understand they need to remove things)

Does this money get refunded!?

Skoda UK might be the people to complain to about the issue.

Sadly they are currently saying no - but will look into a good will gesture.

To add salt into the wounds I received an email at the weekend offering extended 2 yr extended warranty with services etc for less than £700 - and that I could discuss this when dropping off the vehicle. Ha-ha! No surprise ££££ they need to rectify the ongoing issue before offering this. Well over a grand for a common fault - so a default in the manufacturing - with a car that's like new and done less than 24,000 miles - not happy!

I get the initial diagnosis charge, this is pretty standard these days and is designed to cover the dealers costs if the fault is not covered under warranty and they're therefore unable to claim off Skoda UK.

The £400 excess is a new one for me though, you're not making an insurance claim. Do you have an existing warranty on the vehicle? Did they explain what this upfront payment is for?

The courtesy car charge varies by dealer, it seems Skoda UK don't have a blanket policy, meaning their franchised dealer network is free to charge whatever they wish. My local dealer simply asks me to replace the fuel I use, there is no daily charge, presumably the costs are baked into the prices they charge elswhere.

Sometimes it pays to travel a little further, to a better dealer...

Yes, it's a common fault, and yes, it sounds like water pump shroud.  They may as well put a new cam belt on it while it's off.  It has to come off to do the water pump.  The belt is not expensive and that then re-sets the clock for 5 years.  Whereabouts in the country is the OP?  In my experience, Skoda dealers vary enormously in competence and cost.  I prefer to drive 100 miles than use my local one!
