Turbo Charger replacement on Skoda Octavia Estate 69 plate

Featured Replies

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody has had problems with their Skoda Octavia estate regarding having to have the turbo replaced? EPC and engine light (both amber) came on with some loss of power to the car when driving. Took it the dealership for diagnostics to be told that the Turbo had to be replaced due to corrosion. The car is 69 plate with average miles, has had services when required by the dealership and is well looked after. As the car is out of warranty Skoda have only given 10% off the cost of replacement. The customer assistant I have been dealing with at the dealership has been to Skoda factory and Skoda care to see if they can apply any goodwill be neither have offered. Has anybody else had similar problems or have any advice that might help me to reduce my bill? The work has already been carried out but hoping to argue my case further on pick up.

Thanks in advance.

I think you may now be a little stuck now the work has been done, it's a pity you didn't post before giving the go ahead.

I am shocked they say it has corroded, unless you park next to the sea with the bonnet open, I find it hard to swallow that bs myself.

Carbon build up internally can foul up the turbo, seizing the vane inside that directs the flow onto the turbo.

Yeah. Hard to fight now and hard to understand what the actual issues is / was. Unless you asked for said replaced turbo.

This will not make you feel better and it's a true story on these very forums on a mk2fl vrs skoda wanted to replace the turbo because the vband clamp had broken. "Can't get part separately according to etka" replace turbo required.  ... £10 from an online turbo repair place and half an hours work at an independent shop and car fixed.

That poster was pretty happy to have asked on here!!

For this reason you can't take all their advice as gospel or indeed the best course of action, unfortunately.

BtW what engine/ model Oct are we talking about here?

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I wish I'd asked sooner but only just thought of a forum. We are not near the sea so I'm struggling to understand.

Sadly, the worst part is the turbo will be say £1,000 for example.

And the turbo could be brought yourself for £450, that 10% off is a joke.

Values are examples, don't quote that at them.

This is why I tend to recommend going to a trusted independent in preference to a main dealer. A little effort thinking outside the box can turn what seems like a prohibitively expensive repair into something much more manageable.

Of course, it does need to be a GOOD independent garage.

I would love to see the communications between the dealership staff, Skoda / VW UK or the Skoda factory.   Written communications.    Was the Customer Assistant that branch or dealership group Warranty Manager.   Regardless lying is part of the skill set.

I guess you could ask for the written comms record to get a bit more visibility of the issue they discussed.  Although I suspect even in those comms the actual issue might be light on detail... more discussion on how little to contribute.

Still, OP, sometimes you are best to move on...

@June85  What engine does your car have,

how many miles has it done,

& what has the servicing been, annually / fixed or variable, by miles / days?

So how much has this cost you from the car needing to go to the dealership for the diagnosis?

You have 2 years part and labour warranty now on the turbo, or should have.

Has the turbo been kept as an exchange unit and helping to reduce your bill?

IF YOU PAID FOR THE NEW TURBO EVEN GIVEN THERE WAS A 10% DISCOUNT THEN COLLECT YOUR FAULTY / CORRODED TURBO.

Best have it examined by an expert.

We have to deal with whoever, and after sales comes down to make sure to reject any claim and take no responsibility anymore.

We do not care about losing customers, we can sell more cars than we can produce anyway.
