Bosch Battery life - 5 years?

I've left the car standing Wednesday night 20:30 , and just started it today Saturday 11:30, and it fired up :), I'm hoping the 12.5v config switch has made a difference, effectively this is just shutting down the camera in parking mode.

I'm guessing it's started fine as it's warmed up a bit - myself I'd say your battery's days are numbered. It's lasted longer than on my son's 2016 stop/start Octavia. That battery was changed 2019 - Stop/start batteries don't seem to last as long.

If dashcam starts on ignition, it is connected properly to the fuse which is off when car is shut down, and is not a reason of your issue. Could be that more power consumption now just has shown better the existing issue.

IF you read the thread you will see that this dashcam is powered from a device that has a permanent live as well as switched and uses the cars battery capacity when the car is off until a preset voltage is met. There is absolutely no question that the dash cam was causing this situation being set at 12V which is way too low.

According to the manufacuring code, my Varta battery is 10 years old next month. Hasn't given a hint of trouble. It's regularly had long periods of discharge (2/3 months) and never failed to start the car. Stop/start has never been a problem. It's just pure luck with batteries.

Funny you mention Varta,  my previous Superb mk I 2003 1.9pd was fitted with a Varta from new. It was still going strong when I sold the car to a friend in 2015 and battery carried on for many years after that under new ownership. Sadly that car recently went to the big scrapyard in the sky due to major structural rust.

The Moll battery in my Superb mkII 2014 1.4tsi s/s didn't last so well. It failed after lack of use during lockdowns etc.

Thought I would update with the conclusion.

The battery was fine after all, after a lot of driving , 200 miles I would say the start & stop came back!

Sick of going for battery tests at kwik fit although the guys at nuneaton were really brilliant helping me!, telling me the battery is probably fine, just keep driving it and come back for another test,

Issue was not knowing how to measure how well the battery was charging or retaining charge.

I bought this little gadget 41xq4ZiQiPL._AC_.jpg

Which gave the understanding of what was happening with my battery after each drive and after leaving it idle over night, I could see what the problem, I stopped going to kwik fit for tests, so I highly recommend getting something like this, every morning I would just plug it in and check the level before I turned the car on.

I took the dog out for a walk early one freezing morning, and saw 2 people having to jump start their cars, I thought  oh god, but I tried my car and it turned over straight away, that gave me confidence, few days later I went on Holiday left the car on the drive 7 days and no issues starting it.

Thanks for everyone's advice, my advice buy one of these little gadgets to check your battery they really do work.
