Take a picture of what's fitted.

Hi, I’ve attached the photo- as you can see, it’s only 68Ah, but all websitea are saying it needs to be 70Ah, so I’m guessing the previous owner bought a cheaper version?

Hi, why is that?

68 and 70Ah batteries will be indistinguishable in practice.

That's the battery it left the factory with, was 68Ah, now replaced by 70Ah due to advances.

Implication is that if you charge up the battery for 24hrs minimum that it will then clear off any sulphation and allow the battery to store more energy.  That is what I suspect he means.

Your original, and the new replacment code, if I look at the new code, the image is of a Varta battery also, it is what I have fitted to my own car from factory (lasted over 7 years, and I changed it early)

Tanya is one of the most recommended suppliers on the forum for year, and when I was search, it was one of the cheapest.

This is the list of all they supply for 096AGM size

This link is the one I have brought, and fitted to my car

Have a read of this thread here about "Adopting" a battery, in theory you can probably get away with not doing this, though I would recommend you try to find someone local with VCDS and get this done.

You can take your old battery to Halfords to dispose of for free, or find someone that might give you a few quid for the scrap value.

Exactly what Varooom said. There could be nothing wrong with it, but it’s just taken a battering over the past few days when it’s been so cold.

Have a look at my earlier post on this subject, when I thought our battery had had it. Knowing it’s time could be up, I took out battery replacement cover with the RAC this year. Here’s what happend…

In case my last post didn't get through, I just wanted to thank all you guys for your replies-very useful info.

I've decided to fit the Bosch AMG S5A08 with the five year g'tee. My regular garage will be re-coding and fitting it. Not the cheapest-£225 all-in-but it's who I trust with any work -its still owned and run by the same family since 1896, and they've looked after my cars for over 50 years...
