Car Play mapping pixilation

Featured Replies

Hi all - my 11 month old vRS has had no bugs or issues at all, except one. Mapping via Waze or Google Maps over- pixilates to make the screen unreadable within 2 mins of using. Voice directions stay accurate and clear. It only ever resets if I exit car play, but then repeats. Dealer is offering an inspection to see/fix, but before I book it in, has this affected anyone else at all and am I wasting my time? I hugely miss Waze!

I use CarPlay (wireless connection) but haven’t noticed that effect. Having said that, I use Apple Maps (works fine, and with turn directions shown top centre of the virtual cockpit) or the built in satnav; not used Wave or Google maps for a long time (and certainly not since the last car updates in September).

Some other folk have mentioned a problem with Waze and CarPlay, they get a reddish corrupted display - does that sound like your issue?

I’m curious so will try Waze and Google maps next time I’m out. Perhaps you could try Apple Maps, and see if it’s Waze/G maps specific.

BTW, I’m on iOS 16.2

Here’s another thread…

A couple of short 10 minute drives this afternoon and both Waze and Google Maps were fine via CarPlay.

Hopefully your dealer can get an update or two for your car and get it sorted.

I don't think this issue is connected to the car. Would say it's more of a  phone/gmaps and connectivity to the car. Since it started on my car without any recent car updates. Phone is iPhone 11 pro. Now I'm waiting for a new phone to see if the issue will be solved or not.

Problem persists even with the new iphone14/pro/promax… as i can understand the problems is somewhere in between, some kind of gray area. Problema are wide spread on all VAG group cars with mib3 infotainment using wireless carplay (gmaps, waze and even apple maps).

good read is a thread on apple forum.

I do hope it gets fixed soon.

Thanks all for very helpful replies - I’m guessing I’ll wait for VAG to eventually fix!

  • 5 months later...

Seems either Skoda or Apple have finally released a fix as Google Maps now seems to be working fine and no pixelation

OMG. really? Need to test it on first occasion. Thanks for the info.

I dont know about any specific update, but i havent had issues for a while now (a month or two)

  • 1 month later...

I had the exact same issue while using waze. It all went back to normal after the service centre upgraded the software on the infotainement.

Definitely much more reliable for me in recent weeks, but still occurs most journeys, albeit self-rectifying in 3/4 minutes
