Skoda servicing price comparison with Honda

Featured Replies

Just had the 1st service done on my Honda Accord ctdi. It included 6 litres oil (synthetic), oil filter, sump plug, pollen filter, brake cleaner, screen wash fluid and labour. Total cost at main Liverpool dealer -

What are the labour rates in comparrison?

What are the labour times for the services?

Bit unfair to compare just on parts used as to what is done on a service.

Perhaps you hit the nail on the head when you said the Honda was twice the price? If there is more profit for the dealer in the car then perhaps they can offer cheaper service rates.

Simple. Get the Fabia serviced at your Honda dealer!

Found the same when comparing my Fabia PD100 servicing to the Mondeo. :D

Chris

A bloke I work with had his accord serviced (30k I think) and it was a hell of a lot more than I'd ever paid on my octavia

You should see my service bills.

AndyC might be correct, the cheaper the car, the dearer the service! Anyone know the service prices on a Kia Picanta compared with a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow?

I think that there are so many variables that it's impossible to draw a sensible comparision. I still feel however, that Skoda servicing prices are rather higher than many of their competitors.

Hmmmm BMW - expensive car and expensive garage!

Sorry, and I dont mean to get on my soapbox, but this is a common misconseption and really gets my goat. BMW are not expensive for parts ,and labour is regionally competitive with other manufactures.

Example:

Skoda Fabia vRS 10k service = £165

BMW 130i 1st service (at 16k miles) = quoted £120.

And to top it off, when my Fab vRS was serviced, I got a crappy 5 year old Octy hire car along with the threat that if it didnt have the same fuel upon return I would be charged £1.50/litre to fill it. And they didnt even clean my car.

By contrast, the BM went in for a minor bit of warranty work (replacement trim panel), I was offered a 330ci hire car (which I declined) and my car was washed and cleaned and returned to me 3 hours later.

Oh and on part prices, I needed to buy a radio manual for the car. How much? £1.86. Hmm, expensive parts....

Rant over.

Well I can only comment on my own experiences rather than other peoples. But with the Skoda I was always left feeling short-changed and un-cared for by the dealer.

In contrast with the BMW, its been surprise and delight. Whether other people know of a best mates friends girlfriend who paid

Every car has expensive components and every car has cheap components. It's all very well saying a particular part or job is expensive but I think like for like (ie first service vs first service) the numbers say it all. When it's cheaper to service a rear drive V6 than a 4cylinder FWD there's something wrong - yes I know diesels have more service items but at 10K all I got was a bloody oil change for £100.

Perhaps a (different manucturer) major service down the line will be more expensive, perhaps it won't - I don't know, but Skoda are IMHO more expensive than a lot of manufacturers on servicing and considering they are a budget brand (yes they are) I feel that's a bit off and dilutes the savings offered on the purchase price.

However, there is nothing else I want unfortunately so I'm sticking with my diesel shopping trolley.

Still don't like the look of the 1 series though

Wow, it's like being back on Tyresmoke.net! They hate the 1-series. One of the reasons I like it

Oh and have you seen the 130i M Sport? Much better looking than the standard 1-series. Or maybe it's just me :P

But is it cool? ;)

Oops, wrong thread

Chris

For those complaining...do you realise you actually have a choice where you get your car serviced? :)

Any independent garage which is VAT registered and using "genuine" parts will be able to perform most work at probably half the price without affecting warranty, etc.

Of course, they won't have (expensive) diagnostic equipment, nor (expensively) trained master techs...whether this is a priority to you or not comes down to whether it's worth paying the extra for main dealer servicing. :)

FWIW, try taking a smart to a Merc dealer for work...hourly rate is about £80. That said, best "dealer valet" I've ever come across, and you get Molton Brown hand wash in the toilets...
